Life & Work with Tarshae Cousins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarshae Cousins.

Hi Tarshae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a self-taught nail tech I have always had a love for nails. I went to the nail salon all the time. But frequently, I experienced not-so-good situations and this caused me to want to learn how to do my own nails. I started off just wanting to do my own and after researching and learning different things online, doing nails began to spark my interest. I then wanted more out of nails.

So, I decided to become a nail tech. I thought to myself. I can do this! I also had a love for art when I was a child and now I truly enjoy tapping into my artsy side when doing nails. Being able to do two things I love in one awesome profession is amazing. I decided to search for beauty schools. After I finished my nail program. I went on to start my business part-time while being a full-time supervisor at TJ Maxx. Once my skill level improved and my clientele picked up I decided to resign from my full-time job and become a full-time entrepreneur.

Stepping out on my faith was definitely worth it. I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Starting a business during a pandemic wasn’t easy, but it definitely paid off. Two years after I finished school, I am now an entrepreneur and The owner of Her Nail Addiction.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business during a pandemic was one tough struggle. Also, first starting off was a little discouraging. I sometimes worried about clientele and the success of my business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a nail technician and I specialize in nail art. Hand drawing and designing different nail looks are my passion. I’m mostly known for my exotic nail design. I’m most proud of my accomplishments. where I am now compared to where I was a few years ago is definitely my testimony in life. I wasn’t always the person I am now and becoming an entrepreneur helped me become a better person.

I feel like what sets me apart from others is my character. You can be the most talented person in the world, but it’s your heart that makes you different!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Movie nights with my siblings. My older brother and sister could turn a sad movie into a comedy. We could literally reenact every movie.
