Life & Work with Tay DSK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tay DSK.

Hi Tay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At a young age, I was always a creative person; growing up, I constantly had Ideas of being a social media influencer, but my household was never used to that idea; though they didn’t know much, they still supported me. At twelve, I started my first youtube channel called NiiWorld TV, and I engineered my first song and performed it at a church event for Christmas. After the performance, people kept telling me how much they loved the song, and at that moment, I knew I had a passion for this career. Growing up in Ghana, there were not that many opportunities there, So when my parents brought me to the United States, I knew they’d worked so hard to give me a good opportunity, and I had to make them proud. When people started telling me, they loved the song. It was a huge motivation for me. After that day, I started researching how to make music better—growing up in Bolingbrook, Illinois, listening to a wide variety of music that still influences my style of music to this day. Surrounded by his family’s musical passion, I developed a better talent for writing and performing at a young age. In high school, My efforts at writing and performing began to draw more attention. I completed a song at a Xital event, and earlier during my senior year, a video of me rapping went viral around the area. I pride myself on being a versatile artist. It allows me to win new fans from different niches. From young children to older listeners, he has produced songs everyone can like. Frankly, there is no limit to my appeal. A staple of my style is my singing ability which allows me to harmonize and add depth to his songs. This sets him apart from many today’s artists trying to break through.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been bumpy, but that’s attached to my mindset. The challenge I had was, at first, always recording from home because I needed a Studio around my area, recording from home. I learned a lot from it, but my music would sound professional in a professional studio. Later in my career, I found a Studio around my area that changed everything. One of the direct challenges was maneuvering in a way that would have me seen as a unique artist, and I made that happen by being myself and writing music from my heart. There were ups and downs, but I remained focused on the goal I initially had, didn’t let certain things get to me as much, and learned lessons from all my mistakes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
My daily life as a social media influencer is recording and writing music. I just started a TikTok account, so I record videos about music and upload them on TikTok. For youtube, I upload daily vlogs about my life and my shows. I’ve learned to illustrate my perspective of the world and my feelings better than I ever could in everyday conversations. What sets me apart from all the other artists is that even with my music, I am naturally myself. I give as much detail as necessary and articulate my thoughts as well as possible in a way that’s easy for everyone to understand. I do my best to help the other artist deliver their best performance on their songs. I aim to elevate my music worldwide to touch people’s hearts. I am proud that now I get booked for shows, and at my age, I have accomplished things I never thought I would have done.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is seeing my mom so happy with a smile when I created my first song.
