Meet Allison McDonald of Flourish Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison McDonald.

Hi Allison, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you so much! I am Allison, owner and lead planner for Flourish Events, a wedding and event planning company based right here in STL. I offer a wide range of boutique planning services from month-of to full service. I have been in the events industry for all of my adult life starting with a summer job working for a wedding planner in high school. I continued to do events for family and friends through college and the years after. In 2009, I made everything official and Flourish Events was born. I can’t believe it has been 12 years but it has been such a joy sharing life’s happiest moments with my couples and their families. It is hard to imagine doing anything else!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

I don’t think the road is ever completely smooth for any entrepreneur and I’m no exception! There is this perception that it is easy to be your own boss but people don’t realize that there isn’t PTO, there isn’t an HR department, there isn’t an accounting department, there isn’t an advertising/marketing/sales department. You have to wear so many hats and yet still maintain the creative edge and deliver excellence for clients every single day. Small business owners, especially those working in weddings, are some of the hardest working people I know. There is a lot of stress that goes with this industry and I have undying respect for those who love it enough to keep going no matter what.

It goes without saying that navigating through the ever changing landscape of the pandemic was the most challenging of the struggles. Dealing with the reschedules, restrictions that were never the same from week to week, and the emotional rollercoaster of couples was exhausting but we’ve come through on the other side stronger and ready to meet whatever comes next!

As you know, we’re big fans of Flourish Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re a small but mighty brand and pride ourselves on personalized service and customizable offerings to make the event planning process fun and stress-free. I’m very proud of the relationships we’ve built with other vendors and that we’ve become known for a collaborative style of event management. Clients appreciate the experience we bring to every event and the sense of calm that comes with hiring us to handle every detail.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?

Lots of things matter to me but probably the most important would be relationships. I strive to treat everyone with kindness and respect whether it’s the bride signing the contract or the janitor sweeping up at the end of the night. Every person involved in a wedding or event is a vital part of the team and I never want to take that for granted. I still keep in touch with many of my former clients and love seeing their families grow and sharing milestones beyond the wedding day.
