Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Drummond.
Annie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The story of The Sweatstache began shortly after I moved to NYC in Dec 2017. Upon arriving in the Big Apple, I only knew one person (barely!), and in the dead of winter, it can be difficult to meet people in the city. In an attempt to stay active in the frigid NYC temps, I went to a group fitness class and was shocked when the instructor knew almost everyone’s name in class. I thoroughly enjoyed the workout and decided to go back the following week. When I returned, I was pleased to see familiar faces and realized there was a ‘community’ in group fitness. I wanted to share this experience with others, so I posted a review of the studio on Instagram and immediately there was interest from my followers. They began asking questions about the class or letting me know they’d been to the studio too. And BOOM! This is how The Sweatstache was born. I continue to share my experiences at different studios throughout the city and help others find the perfect workouts for them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first year of running The Sweatstache went really smoothly! As I attended more fitness classes, I quickly connected with many instructors and other fitness fanatics. The more reviews and content I shared, the more studios and instructors reposted me on social. I began to receive invites to fitness events and free classes in exchange for reviews. Growing my community seemed to come very naturally, but then a global pandemic hit! Covid-19 caused all the studios in NYC to close and I was at a lost for what to do. If all fitness studios were closed, how would I do reviews!? I had to majorly evolve the content on my page from featuring fitness studio reviews to sharing at-home workouts. To be honest, I am still trying to figure out, but the community I have grown has been so supportive during the pandemic. We are all figuring out this new normal together!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I manage and create content for The Sweatstache, positive digital space for all things fitness, from activewear, studio/instructor highlights, and workout inspiration. I specialize in dance cardio/choreo classes but love trying new workouts. I am known for creating fun, entertaining content that informs my followers about new fitness studios or classes. I am very proud of the community I have created. I moved to New York knowing one person and now I have almost 3,000 people in my online community. I believe my positive attitude sets me apart from others. I motivate my followers to be active and add movement to their day, no matter what fitness level they are at. My page is all about putting in hard work for yourself and no one else.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned throughout my journey has been be kind to everyone. You never know when you will cross paths with someone again.
