Meet Artinces Smith of Fabulously Vegan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Artinces Smith.

Hi Artinces, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began living a vegan lifestyle in college. I’d been a vegetarian since I was a child and naturally, my path led me to rid my diet of eggs, dairy and slowly moving away from leather, suede, and wool. But I don’t believe I would have been intrigued or committed if it wasn’t for learning about animal cruelty as a child. I don’t think anything would have mattered if I didn’t discuss how our actions, or lack thereof, affected the planet and the world around us. I absolutely positively know for certain I wouldn’t love it and believe in the power of plants if it wasn’t for my uncle demonstrating how I can heal a cut by using Aloe Vera, that moment changed my life FOREVER.

Fast forward many, many, many years later, I returned to St. Louis to find that vegan options weren’t as widespread and easily accessible compared to other cities. Initially, I just wanted to make food for what I didn’t see available, talk about the benefits of the lifestyle, and how to get started. That really is still my foundation and what motivates me…the community of it all. Nothing can be accomplished without community. It started off as others asking for my recipes, then ordering food, then health coaching, then asking for food demonstrations, then speaking, and really it’s all been an amazing journey by word of mouth. I’m so grateful. I get to share how fabulous this lifestyle really is.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh goodness, no lol. I would say being an entrepreneur, and I call myself a veganpreneur, has been such a learning experience. SO MUCH, lol. From learning accounting, prioritizing time, building relationships, disappointments, time management, juggling being human, sleep, sleep, sleep, SLEEP. I believe everyone has different journies and it’s definitely not a one size fit all. What gets you through is going back to your why. Your why is your superpower. And also self-awareness.

I did decide to take some time away from my business to rebuild my faith and strength in myself. I wanted to create a strategy and really articulate my vision. I went back not only to my why am I doing this, but my worth. Why am I deserving of seeing this through. A lot of self-talk was going on. I’m very far from perfect and have made many choices that weren’t always best. I needed to address that and the reality of it all.

We’ve been impressed with Fabulously Vegan LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Artinces better known as “Fabulously Vegan” is a veganpreneur focusing on the vegan lifestyle, coaching, and vegucating those are veg-curious! Currently, I am the founder and owner of Fabulously Vegan LLC, a vegan-based business with an online business offering health coaching services. I have also provided consulting, writing, and speaking in regards to health at many events for over three years in the St. Louis area. I have lived a vegan compassionate lifestyle for 17 years and absolutely love the journey! My focus is simply to make the lifestyle more accessible and show how fabulous this lifestyle truly is!

Fabulously Vegan was created in Brooklyn, NY in 2011 as a one on one health coaching and raw vegan food style cuisine. After traveling to the Caribbean, I brought my business back to my hometown where it’s blossomed and has been very welcoming.

With being passionate regarding the lifestyle, I have devoted my life to fighting against animal cruelty, uplifting and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits to the St. Louis area, working with organizations to bring awareness to food scarcity and food deserts, and working with non-profits to promote and educate the masses regarding eco-friendly habits.

Within three years, I’ve created and cultivated events for black veganism with Soul Vegan Thanksliving, a vegan soul food event featuring local vegan chefs throughout St. Louis, Mo and I wish to continue to curate more events with a focus on Black veganism, health, and well-being.

My past clients and partners include Webster University, Saint Louis University, Nestle Purina, YMCA MX, The Rotary, Carol House Furniture, Fox 2, KSDK Channel 5, Thrive Book Stl, Link Market, and many more companies & organizations who are devoted to sharing knowledge of a vegan lifestyle based on compassion for not only animals, but also the planet, and one’s well-being.

I would like for you all to know that although this is a vegan business, it’s much more than a label. It’s a lifestyle that opens your heart and mind to the life around you and how we are allllll connected. I believe COVID was a perfect example in showing us how we are in this together. How we treat one another, our community, the animals, the planet….is connective and a reflection of who we are as humans. This lifestyle isn’t about pointing fingers or blaming, it’s learning how we can truly live well and abundantly together.

I believe I specialize in making a difference in someone’s life and well-being. I really, really, really enjoy coaching. I’ve had the pleasure of working with people fighting cancer, diabetes, and warriors ready and willing to try something different in their lives for the sake of disease. I absolutely love teaching and giving back. You can’t do what you don’t know what to do.

What sets me apart…such an interesting question. I want to say it’s because of my experience in traveling and learning about this lifestyle from many perspectives. I want to say it’s because I’ve been vegan for so long and a veg head as a child, I want to even possibly say it’s because I not only coach but I’m a chef, a speaker, and a writer. But in my heart of hearts, I know how insignificant I am in the bigness of it all. Even in business. I’m just happy to get to do what I love and contribute. If I spark something in someone, that’s so awesome. I like to think we’re all these magical beings and if I’m lucky enough to be a part of a magical world who believes we can make a difference, I’m ecstatic.

I am most proud of the relationships I’ve made during this entrepreneurial journey. But really I’m just proud of the ideas I had in my head to become reality. And there’s still so much I want to do and relationships I want to build. Brand wise, I’m happy that this is a St. Louis made business. I never thought I would be back in my hometown running my business. It’s really cool.

Fabulously Vegan has moved coaching services and cooking classes online. As we begin to open up after COVID, I will explore the opportunity to curate events. What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very curious and very creative. I started dancing at three, acting at five, and also played musical instruments: violin and piano. I was a little quirky, talkative, and active. My Mother never allowed my brother and me to lay around in the summer, or any time for that matter. I LOVED animals. I used to receive a mail subscription of animals, their habitats, and their diet. I loved that and my Barbie magazine.

I always knew I would be an artist and an entrepreneur. I used to sell candy Koolaid at school, I had a lemonade stand, I would help my family whenever there was an event for my own money. I would babysit. I liked making money on my terms and also pursuing my art.
