Meet Darion & Marla Watson of DreamMore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darion & Marla Watson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Marla has always been into interior design since she was a little girl going through furniture and flower shops with her grandmother. She was good at math so her path was written for accounting but little did she know design would become a passion and full circle lifecycle moment for her. After studying at the University of Northern Iowa she switched her major to management after discovering accounting was too linear for her. She needed a mixture of business, creative, and fun. Also in school she met her lifemate, husband, and now business partner, Darion Watson. He received his degree in Organizational Communication receiving the Luxxe Service Award given to him by the Michelle Obama. After both working in retail together in various positions leading into HR, in their 5th year of marriage they decided to start DreamMore LLC.

Currently, we both are HR professionals but differ greatly in personality and skills. Marla obtained her master’s degree in Human Resources Management and Development. Darion received his Master’s in Management and Leadership. Marla is the creative designer of the business and very client-focused with not just creating beautiful designs but solving functional issues for clients. Darion is the business manager who sets timelines, creates and maintains budgets, as well as the liaison between all of our contractors.

We started this business in the heart of the pandemic last year. Marla was doing small projects successfully for a business but wasn’t confident to start a business herself. We had a friend who asked us to renovate her home. It was our first residential project so Marla was nervous but had wanted to start this business for a long time. We took the project on and their DreamMore LLC was birthed with confidence after an enthusiastic client. Although many businesses have seen challenges during this pandemic, we have been blessed to see more business than we can handle.

We welcomed our now two months old Marlowe Grace Watson this year in April. And she has already attributed to our business through our nursery design. We received shares and accolades from Buy Buy Baby, Etched On Wood, and several social media design profiles.

Business is booming and we are so eager to launch the next phase of our business in the Florissant area. Stay tuned for more from DreamMore!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Putting our business plan together and structuring our business was definitely a smooth process. We utilized mentors to help us with obtaining our administration duties to get started. Marla also had a long-time family friend and mentor who is a general contractor with his own business. He introduced to other needed contractors and together we have successfully been gaining business momentum.

Some of our challenges were that we wanted a wholistic experience for our clients so we both needed to learn design software and time management tools. We also increased our focus on building budgets for clients and developing partnerships with vendors to establish contractor discounted rates.

We also really wanted to focus on a brand identity that mirrored our true lifestyle of modern, minimalistic, and trendy attributes… It took us two months before we solidified or brand logo designs and fonts.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our Mission is to inspire our clients to dream of luxury as we enhance their space to meet their functional needs. Oftentimes, clients will end with a design concept, but it doesn’t serve as a functional space for their family needs. We specialize in finding solutions that work for our clients, their families and what they do every day in their spaces. We have great examples if asked.

What does success mean to you?
Success is defined by the holder. For us, success in our business is the look or reaction on our client’s faces when they walk into their newly renovated space for the first time and then seeing the intentional details of how DreamMore gave purpose to the design. With every interaction and small detail, we gather inspiration that influences our design concepts for that client. It is truly tailor made from the colors, patterns, paint, furniture, and fixtures. Oh and we love to meet budget or under too!
