Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Ewing.
Hi Kate, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After many years of practicing yoga, I became a certified instructor in 2016.
I founded Brick City Yoga in 2018 as a way to bring all the aspects of yoga I love together in one place — the physical practice of yoga, a calming space, and an inclusive community of teachers and students.
After a nearly two-year renovation, the studio is a place where students, instructors, and community members can gather.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating studio ownership during a pandemic has definitely been challenging. The studio had just turned one prior to a four months mandated shut down.
We had to quickly pivot to keep the studio afloat, keep the instructors working, and keep our community connecting. While the situation was not ideal, it truly helped define the type of space we strive to be and has made the studio community stronger than I could have hoped.
We’ve been impressed with Brick City Yoga, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Located in St. Louis’ Benton Park West neighborhood, Brick City Yoga is on the first floor of a newly renovated 1890s building. While amenities are new, the studio still boasts the original cast-iron maker’s imprint on the exterior as a nod to St. Louis, the brick city.
Brick City Yoga is a community-based yoga studio. We keep our classes priced at $10 to be as affordable as we can be and offer a variety of classes from Ashtanga to Body Positive Yoga and workshops focused on mindfulness.
We also strive to serve our communities, offering charitable drives and give-back classes throughout the year.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love the Calm and Insight Timer apps for mindfulness and meditation and have more yoga books than I’ll ever get through.
