Meet Kathy Fields

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Fields.

Hi Kathy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started in high school, back where I am from in South America, where I took a couple of jewelry-making classes. There is where I found my love for designing and creating jewelry pieces. During and after high school, I began making simple pieces for personal use. I moved to the United States to better my English and become fluent in a second language. I soon got married and had two daughters. Once they began school, I had more time to focus on jewelry making. I began showcasing my work at a couple of craft shows in the St. Louis area. Over the years, I became involved in many more shows, specifically art fairs, around the Midwest. I started to include mixed materials, such as copper, silver, bronze, leather, and macrame, with the natural South American stones. Today I have been making jewelry and showcasing my one of a kind pieces for over 16 years and every day, my jewelry pieces continue to evolve. I enjoy mixing stones and creating new styles.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am fortunate to have gotten to where I am today, but the road has not always been smooth. The biggest struggle has been finding the right market of customers over the years. It has been a trial and error with this. I have traveled near and far to find the best art fairs to showcase my work. Every year I apply to new fairs, as well as reapply to the same shows I have been doing for 5+ or 10+ years. I am very thankful to my loyal customers as well as all new customers for supporting me and allowing me to be able to keep doing what I love.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me most apart from others is my one of a kind jewelry creations, as well as using natural stones from South America. I have not seen that from another artist yet and I take pride in my individuality. I am also very proud of myself for all of my career accomplishments from when I started to where I am now.

How do you define success?
Success is being able to do something that you enjoy. It is a rewarding feeling knowing that others appreciate what you do.
