Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacita and Laquinda Moody. Them and their team share their story with us below:
We started our brand the “2Moodychics” in February of 2019. We had always had a passion for all things beauty and both of us are biological sisters. Laquinda is the one that came up with our brand name which is a play-off of our last names. We had talked for many years about starting a YouTube channel since our early days in college. That’s when we both became hooked on how amazing the content on the internet can be. One of our goals was to be able to reach people in all areas of the world and step outside of our hometown box. Laquinda is self-taught in the art of nails and loves experimenting with wigs. Lacita is self-taught in the artistry of makeup. We both enjoy creating lifestyle and beauty content, attending events, and traveling which we also share on our platforms.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a content creator has not been easy. It’s been a bit of an uphill battle. We experienced what many may call failures, but to us, we looked at it as trial and error. We struggled with trying to build an audience while not neglecting our responsibilities. The time commitment is huge as an influencer because you are a one-man-band. To produce one piece of content, you have to produce all aspects of it yourself until you can afford to hire others. What helped us was learning how to manage our time the best way that worked for us and not necessarily others. Also, as a nano-influencer, you often aren’t respected by the brands that want to work with you. Brands would reach out with lots of demands, but they were not willing to pay us what we were worth.
It was also hard in the beginning because we started with little support from people that we know personally. We had to learn how and build a true community from virtual strangers, which is an art in and of itself. As well as content creation especially in the beauty community is saturated so you have to learn what you are good at and let that be what separates you from the many others who are in your same industry.
After a while, we started to find our flow and purpose. We began focusing more on creating the content we actually liked and not what we thought should be liked, which resonated well with our audience. Once we mastered this, we knew we had found our tribe.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets us apart is our originality. We don’t try and be like other content creators. We are most proud of the fact that we didn’t give up. We kept going even after we felt like giving up.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We believe the most important lesson we took away from the crisis is simply not to take anything for granted. We believe to some extent that we all took some areas of our lives for granted, especially those simple things. We just assumed that they would always be there. We both ended up contracting the virus, however, Laquinda had a more severe case. After her bout with the virus, she noted how it made her appreciate her life more and the fact that we all have a day where we won’t be here anymore. Since the crisis, we have learned to appreciate friends and loved ones more. We truly learned just how fast things can change for the worst.
We also realized our resilience as a brand. The pandemic hit right when we first started to gain a bit of momentum in our brand. When everything shut down, we quickly realized just how much more time that we had that we previously didn’t have before. We leveraged our time by taking content courses, participating in viral trends, and even participated in a content creation bootcamp (which was very grueling might we add). It was a great time to be a content creator because social media and all things virtual started to boom. We also learned the importance of toilet paper, lol.
