Meet Nicola Hodges

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicola Hodges.

Hi Nicola, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my journey of wanting to write a children’s book for my son because I wanted to do something specifically for him.

I’ve always wanted to be able to leave a legacy for my child, this is the start of that. I decided to write about him having a hard time going to bed because I figured a lot of kids could relate to that and well honestly it’s the truth!

He went through the entire process with me, from writing the manuscript to checking the illustrations. It was an amazing and emotional process for both of us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely was not an easy road. There were a lot of things about writing a book that I did not know. And unfortunately, I had to find out the hard way, I ended up spending extra money on things because I wasn’t informed.

But overall I wouldn’t trade the process. I learned so much and it was a great bonding experience with my son.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently serve as the new homeless liaison for Collinsville School District. I was recently accepted into the MSW Program and I start that in the fall, which I’m really excited about.

I would say I’m most known for my loving nature for students. I advocate for them and always give them my best and true selves. I’m most proud of my ability to adapt. I have been in some uncomfortable situations professionally and I have overcome and am fighting my way to the top.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I love hard and have no remorse for loving the way that I do.

Especially, my students, I love them wholeheartedly.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people may not know that I work very hard.

Outside of writing this book I have a successful credit repair business on top of being a single full-time mother, going to school, and working my full-time job. I pride myself on being a Jack of many trades. A lot of people also probably wouldn’t know that our book has now been published online with Barnes and Noble.

I’m building a legacy for my child, and I pray that one day he’ll be able to look back and say how proud of me he is and how hard I’ve worked to provide excellent life for him.
