Meet Rhonda Favor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Favor.

Hi Rhonda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
As a little girl my parents always took photos of us. We always had family photos hung on the wall. I always loved seeing them and going through the photos. When it came time to start thinking about what I wanted to do after high school I had two things. One was study dolphins and the other was become a photographer. After high school in 2003, I went to school in Florida for Digital Photography and fell in love with fashion photography.

I study under some amazing photographers and I excelled in my classes. I even did an internship while in college with Troy Plota as one of his assistants. I had heard he only kept male assistants, but he gave me a try. After my first gig with him, he asked me on a few more. These were not your average photo shoots. There was an entire team involved, from 2-3 photography assistants, managers, models, hair and make-up artist, and sometimes even creative directors. I loved the chaos and complexity of the shots. I loved seeing all the working parts and being a part of something magical. Next, he asked if I wanted to go to Mexico with him as an assistant for a major photoshoot with IZOD, BASS Shoes, and Van Heusen. Of, course I said Yes. It was unreal, with several working parts and a lot of staff. We spent a day on a Yacht photographing a clothing line, he even did some underwater photos in a pool. The time working for him was an amazing experience and I learned so much.

After we got back, I moved back to Missouri to my hometown for my family. I grew up in Hermann Missouri a beautiful little historic town with no fashion photography. I had to figure out what I wanted to photograph since fashion was nowhere around. I started shooting families and weddings. I learned I loved the chaos of a wedding day especially all the emotions in a wedding. I wanted to be the one capturing every moment so that years down the road you can come back to your photos and relive your day. I started to then structure my business as a wedding photographer.

Today I am a full-service Wedding Photographer, Family Photographer and Senior Photographer located in Troy Missouri. I have an amazing husband along with three beautiful children. My husband is also my assistant on weddings and other photoshoots. I would not be where I am today without the support of my husband and my crazy ideas. Our home has large photos of us hung all over our walls and my kids love seeing our photos everywhere.

I believe as an artist, Photography was invented to be printed. That the walls in your home are not just your personal space, but they tell The Story of Your Family for Generations. When I grew up digital photography wasn’t a thing and photographs were printed and they were everywhere.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am sure no one has ever had a smooth road. But, that’s okay. I love being a photographer and a small business owner.

Like any other small business owner, we all face challenges. I struggle with all the different hats I have to wear. I am a one-person operation for most of the time for the day-to-day operations. I do my own marketing, social media, scheduling, accounting, web design and so much more. It gets overwhelming at times, and it has taken me a very very long time to learn how to get everything into place. And I feel every day the list keeps on growing. But that is business. I have a part-time employee who has been amazing and has taken a lot of tasks off of my plate. Without her and the support of my husband, I would not be where I am today.

2020 was a year for everyone. Not only did COVID hit but we had a beautiful daughter in August who ended up in the NICU for 80+ days. Come to find out she has Cystic Fibrosis and needs a lot of attention, lucky since she has been out, she has been healthy and happy. It took us a while to get use to her daily routine but now we have it down. 2021 we are back stronger than ever and business has been busy. Even though my day-to-day operations have more tasks, I love what I do and I keep pushing through. I love my family; I love my job and I love my clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding photography and creating your first family heirloom. Wedding days are special because it’s part of your love story and you are celebrating it with the ones you love most; your family and friends. The moments on that day are so special and they are meant to be captured so that your children and your grandchildren and your great-grandchildren will cherish the photos, which are also your memories.

I believe time is precious and that memories are forever. How love keeps generations strong. I believe in the power of raw emotion being captured. How a look says more than a thousand words. I believe a photograph retains their strength and impact from a moment in time. And the Power to make us REMEMBER.

I believe that every couple is different and unique. And that every story deserves to be captured in a beautiful and creative way. So that years down the road you can come back and relive your wedding day from the I DOs to the First Look, The First Kiss, and even The First Dance. To be shared and talk about for many generations. Which is why I love creating a beautiful heirloom album that tells the STORY of your special day.

I am not just an ordinary photographer. I love capturing not just the beautiful moments but creating something EPIC to be hung on your walls for everyone to see and say WOW you guys look amazing!

Most of my Couples say “she doesn’t treat it like a job, she treats it like it’s her duty to make this day as memorable and easygoing as humanly possible. She has little pointers that I had never thought of, she isn’t afraid to get down and dirty for the most epic shots and best of all she made sure our drinks were never less than half full. She is more than a photographer.” I hear this a lot and I truly do care about each and every wedding I photograph. I work closely with every couple and even love helping with their wedding day timeline.

It is a privilege to be invited to be part of someone’s Big Day. To be trusted to capture every detail, every tear, every smile. To create something so beautiful that they are proud to show it to their loved ones. That is what I cherish the most.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Continue to learn, continue to thrive, and to grow. I go to a photography conference every year called Shutterfest. It is held here in STL by an amazing photographer. I have learned so much from this conference but most of all became friends with a lot of photographers. My business has changed not just by going to Shutterfest but continuing to grow my Photography and Business knowledge which has endless possibilities. Photography is 80% Business and 20% Photography. Keep that in mind and remember there is always something for you to learn and something for you to teach someone else.
