Meet Shelby Vaught

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Vaught.

Hi Shelby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my small business journey in the spring of 2020 as a simple hobby while navigating my way through nursing school. You may think- “Wow, if you were in nursing school, why would you add more to your plate?” For me, thrift shopping was a way to escape for a while. A way to put aside all the tests, work, stress, etc. I have enjoyed thrift shopping as long as I can remember….going with my family on the weekends or finding a small piece of someone’s “trash” on the side of the road that was a TREASURE to me. There is something super exciting about finding a simple gem that kept me going back for more until random thrift trips turned into weekly occurrences.

I began by just selling things around my home- or things from my closet that I no longer wore. After making several sales, I wondered if it could be something that I could use to make a small income for fun. If I wanted to make a business out of reselling things from my closet, first thing was first- I either needed to get a whole new wardrobe to replace mine that I had sold…..or buy items to build an “inventory”. I began by picking up a few items- and “testing the waters”. I started with vintage finds and simple high end clothing items that I knew I could at least break even on. Over time, I began to realize just how in- demand second hand items were. I was hooked! I would go out to source items once or twice a week; get home, wash the items, list them, and wait for a sale. It was addicting.

Fast forward to 2022, I have grown in my business both mentally/physically and learned what to pick up and what not to. This journey has taught me customer service skills, time management, entrepreneurship, organization, and humbled me as a person. There has definitely been bumps along the way, however, it has been a significant blessing to both me and my family. I love what I do, both as an RN and an entrepreneur and couldn’t imagine my life differently.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, as with anything-things take time to progress and adapt to. I grow so much as a person each and everyday being able to do this gig on the side. I would not call myself or the business I run perfect by any means, however, it is mine and I am proud of the progress I have made thus far.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a nurse for 2 whole years and currently work full time as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery. Through this profession, I am able to care for both mothers and their babies in the inpatient setting giving pre and postnatal care. This is a very rewarding job that allows me to connect with individuals and their families while assisting in the miracle and joy of welcoming a new child into the world! These families bless me in more ways then they know….It’s truly a joy to care for them and work alongside great co-workers!

Part time, I work as a reseller and content creator via Poshmark, Ebay, and Facebook Marketplace. I also create posts on Instagram and Pinterest to further promote my business with aesthetically pleasing additions to the platforms. Putting myself apart from others, I strive to make each and every individuals’ shopping experience positive while offering great customer service, clean and curated wardrobe options- all of which can be bought from the comfort of your own home. I offer prompt shipping (same or next day) to ensure customers receive their items in a timely manner. I offer a wide range of items both vintage and high end clothing, housewares, accessories, and shoes to fit the needs of all shoppers. My closet is a collection of many different styles/sizes and I hope to bring a little bit of everything for everyone!

I am proud of the progress I have made over the last two years and look forward to growing my business and connecting with people for years to come!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
In my free time, I love to read romance novels and listen to several fellow thrifters/reselling podcasts to better myself as a collections curator.
