Meet Tennille Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tennille Ray.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
Before I started my business, I was a figure athlete/ A bodybuilder. and a Personal Trainer. After winning the title of Miss Universe figure – I competed in a few more bodybuilding contests. After that, female and male competitors began asking me for coaching and posing – I agreed and took on a few clients, helping them get ready for bodybuilding shows and looking their best on stage. When I started posing with more male athletes, I realized there was a need for better stage wear. In bodybuilding, the men wear trunks, they can wear any color, but in the classic physique category, competitors can only wear black- black classic physique briefs. And men’s physique competitors wear boardshorts. Sometimes I wouldn’t like the fit; other times, the shapes and colors -I said this is it. I started creating brief-style shorts and bodybuilding trunks first. It quickly turned into black briefs as the organization felt it was better to display the gentleman’s legs. I began helping some more popular athletes find board shorts to wear for the stage.

I was a bit of a board shorts broker. After finding shorts, I said to myself – It’s time to create my own since they loved my sense of fashion and opinion, and I loved seeing them look fantastic. I grabbed some scrap paper and a pen, and the rest, as they say, is history. I created my bodybuilding, classic physique, and MensPhysique line. Our products are worn on the biggest stages by Amateur and pros worldwide, and we couldn’t be prouder. We are so grateful for our amazing customers, the amazing athletes who continue to wear our products, and the coaches and family members who encourage and suggest the athletes stick with us. Thankful for my creativity that keeps them interested in our brand. Our gold is Quality and comfortability first, then amazing designs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
My early struggles were getting my measurements down correctly and having enough product for the athletes.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a black-owned company specializing in bodybuilding stage wear that can also use for the beach and can also wear shorts casually.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During COVID, I realized if I didn’t focus – I could fail. That was something I couldn’t afford to do!
