Rising Stars: Meet Abbie Knights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbie Knights.

Abbie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve spent the last 20 years around entertainment. I initially started out as an aspiring artist. Flash forward, 18 years later, I landed in radio which has been an exciting journey thus far! I’ve also been very blessed to worked as a photographer and freelance journalist at The Hype Magazine, Jerry Doby (editor-in-chief) and Dr. Jameelah Wilkerson are the dream team and have been nothing short of amazing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road at all. But then again, nothing worth having comes easy. It’s important to look at any potential “failure” or “obstacle” as an opportunity to learn and grow, as you continue in your journey. The entertainment business is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I believe what May set me apart from others, is that my main goal is to simply find ways to do good and bring happiness to people. Whether it be through non-profits or entertaining people through my radio show “The Abbie Knights Show”, I always strive to find a way to uplift at least 1 person every day. Something as simple as a smile can change a lot in a person’s day, you never know what people are going through.

At this point in my life, one of the things I’m most proud of is my radio show. Previously, I had a morning show in California, where I grew to over 1,000,000 listeners in just 7 months with no press or marketing. I had to make the difficult decisions to pull the show and reestablish in a new market, where we’ve grown to over 200,000 listeners in just five months on WGET LIVE 89FM, with our show airing only 1 day a week on the weekend. Thankful to Da Inphamous Amadeuz for believing in us and giving us an opportunity on his station. I may be a bit biased, but I also think I have by far, the sexiest, coolest, and most amazing co-hosts on my show. Truly thankful for Maria Clifton aka DJ Ria, Jenny Ruby, and DJ Cadence, for their continued dedication and loyalty.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I once heard someone say that “Nothing in life, is worthwhile unless you take risks.” And Nelson Mandela once said, “there is no passion to be found playing small.” If you listen to the stories of every successful person out there, their journey required a certain level of “risk” at some point, I think the real question is, do you believe you are worth taking that risk for. My life has been full of risk, failures, and rewards, and it’s taught me infinite great lessons along the way, lessons that only life experience can teach. I wouldn’t change a thing.
