Rising Stars: Meet Amanda Howard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Howard.

Hi Amanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was scrolling on FB when I saw a Boutique ask if anyone had any freshies for sale. I thought what the heck is a freshie? I googled and a YouTube video came up. I was fascinated and ordered the supplies to make me a few. I got the supplies in, made 2 pumpkin freshies out of metal cookie cutters, and posted them on my FB. Within a few hours, I had reached the maximum number of messages for the day and couldn’t respond for 24 hours. From there I continued to grow. Selling solely from FB.

Then I wanted to make my own molds instead of buying them. I paid a lady to teach me how to make STL files. My husband bought me a 3d printer and I started making mold housings. I opened an Etsy Shop and it’s been busy since. I have faced many personal challenges along the way but had such a great support system that helped me stay focused and motivated. Today is my 1 year anniversary and I’m on cloud 9. I self-taught myself by watching YouTube how to make my website. I’m still learning and changing things around, but saved myself so much money by doing it myself. If there is a will, there is a way!!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was smooth the first 2 months. Then my dad was beaten and left for dead. He was in the hospital for 3 months and then moved to a nursing facility where he later passed from his injuries.

This was life-changing for me and my best friend stepped in to help. She is now my business partner. I don’t know what I would have done without her.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known as a jack of all trades. I love to do all kinds of stuff. From camping, farming, baking, gardening, and singing. I’ve always been artistic. Both of my grandmothers were into crafts and from a young age, it interested me. I love colors and mixing colors, glitters, paints, etc. Makeup and helping people feel confident about themselves is my passion. I think wearing makeup and applying it to my clients over the past few years has helped me as far as being more creative. I think what sets me and my business apart is the quality of our products. You get what you pay for.

And I strive to have the best qualities in all my products. Each freshie will be different in some way. Each freshie is made individually and that gives so many opportunities to get creative. My business name come from my nickname. My family has always called me Fluffy and I just thought Fluffy Freshies sounded catchy and cute. I’m proud that I didn’t give up when it was the easiest way out. I pushed through and was there for my customers.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I have HUGE visions and wishes. I’d love to be a 1 stop freshie shop! I’d love to be able to sell everything someone needed to open a freshie business!

I went from my kitchen to a storage building. I’d love to grow and upgrade my work area!! I would love to help developmental folks and group homes. Freshies are fun and this would be a great way for someone with developmental issues to be able to get creative and have fun.
