Rising Stars: Meet Ash Forrest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Forrest.

Hi Ash, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have identified with being an artist for as long as I can remember. The moment I could pick up a crayon I was creating stories and making everything as colorful as possible.

This passion has allowed me to work in various creative fields – from working in a letterpress studio to owning a photography business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not! I think every artist struggles with their work at some point if not all of the time. There were years when I let my art practice slip in lieu of other accomplishments or projects.

I have never gone a full year without creating something but those times when I let too much time go in between affected more than just my portfolio of work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work in various mediums, but lately, I have been focusing on acrylic painting. I create large abstract landscapes that are heavily layered with very sculptural textures.

My hope for these works is that the viewer will want to investigate the piece more closely and discover some unexpected moments in the composition. I recently installed two large pieces at St. Louis Lambert International Airport – if you are flying in Terminal 2 check them out!

In complete contrast – I have also been making very small ‘cake paintings’ which are 5 x 5 canvases that look like a real cake. They are a lot of fun to make and I love documenting the process.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
You can get in touch with me via my website for information on commissions, cake paintings, or collaborations!
