Rising Stars: Meet Dee Dee James

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Dee James.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m the founder of The Dirty Muggs.

I started playing guitar in high school with local bands. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a variety of prominent groups such as Color Me Bad, Jesse Johnson, Bootsy Collins, Ice Cube, and Lenny Kravits to name a few. That is how I got to where I am today. I started the concept of The Dirty Muggs 10 years ago and it has been a successful venture.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s always an up and down ride in the entertainment industry. One of the main struggles along the way was when I was traveling a lot in my younger days. Not a lot of money and living in one house with all the band members working together to live and get our music career’s going.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a left-handed guitar player and known as the founder of The Dirty Muggs. I am most of proud of playing with Bootsy Collings and Jesse Johnson. They took me to another level of musicianship and the reason where I am today.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Bringing people together and able to organize a group of musicians to make a successful unit.
