Rising Stars: Meet Illusive

Today we’d like to introduce you to Illusive.

Hello Illusive, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Illusive Beats story starts in 2012! when I was diagnosed with epilepsy, almost 10 years ago my life came to a standstill it felt like to me and my family. I had never had seizures before, so at the time I was seizing anywhere from five to six seizures a day. I spent most of my time trying to recover. my health wasn’t great at this point my outlook on life wasn’t bright at all. I had to quit my job as a dealer for the casino, I wasn’t able to drive, my life had drastically took a turn for the worst in my eyes. I never had to depend on anyone and for the first time in my life I felt helpless. I only felt like a burden on anyone who was around me, I lost friends and family due to epilepsy, this lifestyle lasted for years.

I remember one day I was just playing my favorite Hip-Hop artist TECH N9NE and his K.O.D. album and it clicked right then, music has always been apart my life I use to write lyrics, I use to be at school beating on the desk or at the lunch table. So, I started learning how to produce music.

In 2016 I enrolled in E.I. By Nelly college. Where I met Wyshmaster, I was already familiar with Wyshmaster’s production credits due to being a fan of TECH N9Ne, so when I got the chance to work and learn from him, I knew this is where I was meant to be.

Now even through school, my seizures were active, but I knew that I couldn’t quit.

I graduated in 2017 and I started really focusing on my brand Illusive Beats, I want to leave a legacy for my kids and my city. STLMO has so much talent and creativity, but being from the middle of the map, we don’t get exposure. So, I want to be able to bring the music scene to the MO.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road? not at all. even today I suffer from my seizures which effects my everyday life even almost 10 years later. but I remember seizing 5-10 times a day being confined to my house with no shimmer of light that my life was going to get better or even easier.

I also struggled with feeling like I wasn’t good enough or my music was not reaching anyone at least anyone who cared.

I didn’t have knowledge about how to get placements with artist or placements with Film/Tv, my wife was the only one working and when you have a family of 4, one income isn’t enough.

My marriage was tested time and time again, due to financial burdens, my depression, due to myself almost wanting to give up on life ‘cause I felt like I was just a burden on my loved ones,

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I produce music! Illusive Beats specializes in story-telling through instrumentation. Being able to lay a blank canvas so an artist or film can complete the masterpiece with either lyrics or visuals. The thing I am most proud of is my ability to network with anyone, to be able to adapt and continue to become great!

Also, I have my MZZRY Muzzic Clothing that is about to be released shortly!

The ability to communicate with confidence is what allowed me to be able to become friends with some of the people who inspired me like Wyshmaster, Stevie Stone, Spaide R.I.P.P.E.R. etc…

what sets me apart from others? Is that I don’t quit. I have been through too much in my life to allow anyone or anything to stop my blessings. when we link up it isn’t just business. I want to make sure your good in life also.

The hardest part is meeting good people, success will always become a failure when evil is involved.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I produced beats for 8 years before ever selling 1 beat. I’m a continuing epilepsy fighter

Respect is above all

I was born in the darkest place of MZZRY, now I’m here to shine light on others in MZZRY.

I’m a fan of St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, I don’t watch much hockey but always Go Blues!

I’m excited and can’t wait for the Soccer team to begin that has been a dream of mine to be able to produce music for one of my hometown sports teams.

I am also a huge fan of horror Movies especially the original Slasher films (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St. etc…)
