Rising Stars: Meet Katie Baize

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Baize.

Hi Katie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always dreamed of being a model when I was older, especially when I would spend hours a day watching America’s Next Top Model. I’ve always been very photogenic and want to take my picture with friends, but one day one of my friends, who has a small photography business, reached out to do a little shoot in the park. I loved it so much and posted it on my social media when a friend of my boyfriend at the time reached out to me. She let me know she did some modeling in STL and would love to set me up with her photographer to get started on actual modeling. So I got in contact with him, but at the same time, a covid hit and lock down happened. With lockdown happening and me living 3 hours away in Springfield, Missouri, and working in health care, I couldn’t get down there. Fast forward to the 4th of July weekend ending, and I just got back home when I found out my then-boyfriend had been cheating on me the whole time. After a week of being upset and everything, I reached out to the photographer and said that’s it, let’s do this shoot! We proceeded to set it up for August 6th and started planning. The day of, I had worked all night at my job, got home grabbed my bags, and set out to STL. I got there and was so nervous, but as soon as the first shot was taken, all my worries and stress just melted away, and I was living in the moment. The photographer was shocked that I had never done a professional shoot before and kept saying I was a natural. Automatically, I was hooked and returned to STL every weekend to do between 4-10 photoshoots. I’d set myself up and was doing this from august till June when an amazing opportunity presented itself. I quit my job in Springfield and stayed in STL for a whole week, slowly turning my every weekend trip to STL into always being in STL and going back home maybe once every 1-2 weeks! The next thing I know, I’m looking at apartments, and now I live full time in STL, and I am always staying very busy and even now traveling to other states for stuff! I couldn’t be happier with where I am.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, some of the biggest struggles were money for gas, clothes, photoshoots, hotels, and other things every weekend. Once able to overcome those, I was faced with being in a not-so-well modeling group that I slowly got myself out of, which was hurting my modeling way more than helping, and it was challenging since it was at the start of my career. I wasn’t sure of what I was doing still. Many struggles I still deal with are my conflict between my job and my modeling, unfortunately.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been training different things over the past year and fall more and more in love with it every day like I do my modeling. Besides my modeling, I also have a passion for being an aerialist. I one day hope to be able to travel and do performances and competitions.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always stick true to yourself. You always know everything happening and going on; outsiders do not but think they do.
