Today we’d like to introduce you to MrGoodGoesHard.
Hi MrGoodGoesHard, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first started writing as an outlet for my depression. I was stressed about my prison sentence and I found out that using a pen and pad to vent my frustrations and aggression actually worked for me. By the time my custody level dropped, and I was transferred to a Federal prison camp, I had notebooks stacked on top of each other full of writing that I wanted to do something with. I was very insecure at first but after some good positive feedback, my fear dissipated. I still wanted to keep my writing private, after all, it was very intimate.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Being in Federal prison and trying to get your work edited, formatted, and published, all from a cell phone was risky and serious business. Pulling out my work and then immediately having to hide it if a guard walked by became tedious. I almost got caught a few times.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been able to publish 6 books through Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. A lot of smaller Distributors also picked up rights to my book. I was so excited to see my books on Walmart and Target her purchase online. I specialize in urban literature oh, but I’ve also written a romance, and an erotic stories collection. What I’m most proud of it’s really a bittersweet reality. Me being in federal prison twice enabled me to be close to a lot of criminals, so it was easy to integrate their stories and to my books firsthand.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Make sure you keep money in your budget for advertising and promotion. You can have 5,000 friends on Facebook and 5000 followers on Instagram and five thousand followers on Tik-Tok, but those numbers don’t translate into Book Sells. Your cover and your synopsis have to be gripping enough to attract people’s eyes and ears.
