Rising Stars: Meet Robert McBride

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert McBride. Them and their team share their story with us below:

A young black driven, determined and successful man.

Married a beautiful black woman with two amazing daughters (13 & 8). Started cutting his own hair at the early age of 12. Never really took it seriously but always kept with it. Continued on to college where he cut fellow students’ hair for $5 to eat at times.

After a year in college, his grandmother allowed him to cut hair in her basement. His clientele quickly grew and it was time to expand. Coincidentally, he later met Dwight and he invited him to cut alongside him in the shop to just see how he likes it. Long story short, he quickly became a business partner with Dwight. Together, they have since relocated to a bigger shop in Hazelwood, MO.

After 3 and a half good years of business at CHOP SHOP ALL-IN, they have now opened an event space next door to the barbershop called NEXT DOOR EVENTS. Currently, they are in the process of opening CHOPSHOP SUITES to expand the family and services offered.

Robert is also the executive producer of the reality show CHOPSHOP partnering with The FLIMLORD. So definitely be on the lookout for that this fall.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth but I never expected it to be.

There were many challenges along the way. One was balancing a full-time job and still managing to build a solid clientele. Very grateful for my clients because they are so understanding and loyal.

Another challenge was quitting my job of 6 years with a salary I once prayed for. That might’ve been the bravest thing I’ve ever done. My only regret is that I should’ve done it sooner.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a barber and business owner. I specialize in giving makeovers.

I’m most known for being personable and becoming family with clients. And also, spreading knowledge to the youth and up-and-coming barbers.

I’m most proud of providing the opportunity for my employees to leave their 9-5 job to become self-employed entrepreneurs. Taking my everyday reality and making it a reality show is what sets me apart from others.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The thing I love most about my city is the hustle. St. Louis is a small city with a lot of big-time hustlers. If you can make it here you can make it anywhere. The thing I like least about our city is the division.

The city could be so much bigger and go so much farther if we all came together more often. The violence is another thing I also like least about my city.
