Hi Max, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was raised by my grandma and growing up most of what I wore or where we shopped was secondhand. We made the most of it and I really grew to love thrifting and garage sales and the gems I found there. One thing that really stuck out to me was that the secondhand pieces were often vintage- and those pieces were much better quality than the pieces that were being sold in the store.
This love of vintage pieces is what Maximal is born from. I worked in AI/tech for many years, but that dream to bring my love of vintage to life somehow was always with me.
After a while I started to feel like I was selling my soul to tech and it was time to follow my passion. Now I get to bring revival and a curated eye to vintage pieces that have a history.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A definite challenge is working against the bias a lot of people have when they think “vintage”.
Maximal is so much more than archival items like poodle skirts and prairie dresses- these are classic, timeless pieces that are the literal definition of “They don’t make them like this anymore” (but still totally approachable for your closet).
The collection I curate can fit so many occasions, so there’s no need to fear adding some vintage in your life. Think adding a splash to your look with a gold jewelry stack, dressing for work with a killer silk button down, or going full-Maximal in the statement dress of your dreams.
Long story short, these pieces can work into your day-to-day or help you play with an alter ego for the night and go full glam. It’s vintage you actually want to wear.
