Meet Dj Muda of St. Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Muda

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved back to St. Louis in August of 2023 after being gone since 2005. When I left, my business partner Wesley and I had just shut down our record label, Uprising Records. That label was responsible for a collective called Soul Tyde, which consisted of artists like Black Spade, Tef Poe, Coultrain, Brandyn Vaughn, Coco Soul, and Gotta B KARIM — just to name a few. So when I moved back to St. Louis I decided to take the craft of DJing more seriously. I had previously played around in the 90’s and early 2000’s when we had a reoccurring event called Nappy Soul. I would hold it down as an opener for DJ Nappy Needlez (now known as James Biko). Fast forward to December of 2023, years when I invested in DJ equipment and decided to get into the craft. Since I had already been in the entertainment business I was able to reach out to the legendary DJs like Charlie Chan, Stan Da MAN, Dj Crucial, and Soopaman to name a few. Having been a producer, rapper, and engineer, DJing was easy once I understood blending. So now I’m able to express myself with the tables.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth ride for the most part because I had already been involved on the scene and a lot of people I had previously worked with were now in position to help showcase my talent. Like most forms of the arts, the DJ profession is one where a lot of folks don’t want to pay you what you’re worth. That said, there are also businesses who value what entertainment brings to the table. It’s all about finding good partnerships.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My producer, rapper, and engineer experience for 20+ years has tuned my ears to understand how to reach the souls of people as a DJ. I’m most proud of being able to have countless people look forward to my next event because they have gotten lost in the beauty of the vibe of my set. Since I lived in Atlanta for almost 20 years, I became engulfed in the reggae scene working sound systems for selectors, aka DJS. This made me love reggae more and I want to eventually remix songs live fusing reggae with popular tunes.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is to enjoy what you do and be true to your uniqueness.
