Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlotte Vieth
Hi Charlotte, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been interested in photography since I was a kid. In grade school, I made videos with my friends and sent them photos that I took on our field trips. In high school, I took photos at sports games and school events for fun. In college, I took photos on weekend trips and made videos for class projects. I went on exchange in Prague, Czech Republic and have thousands of photos from those three months since I was going to new countries every weekend. I graduated in 2022 with a BSBA in Marketing and backpacked around Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Nepal. I brought my camera to Everest Base Camp, the Great Barrier Reef, and tons of other places. After that, I booked a one-way ticket back to Australia without much of a plan and ended up living there for a year. I worked on a macadamia nut farm in Bundaberg and an athletic shoe store in Sydney and had a blast. Travel photography has been a great way for me to remember and share my experiences.
I feel really lucky that I ended up moving back from Australia around the same time STL Bucket List just happened to be looking for a full-time photographer. Even though I had spent years creating content for fun, I never seriously considered the possibility of getting paid for it. It’s been great working with such a creative team on so many different projects, and I’m excited to see where things go.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. I’ve had a lot of opportunities that I’m grateful for. My biggest obstacle has been more of a mental thing which is thinking too much. I was worried about getting stuck in a career I didn’t like and stressed myself out a lot during college for no reason. I could’ve enjoyed a lot more about my college experience if I had just chilled out a bit. The backpacking I did after graduating taught me to stop thinking so much and just do something and see how it goes. Constantly putting myself in unfamiliar situations forced me to learn how to pivot my mindset much quicker, and it’s made me more resourceful and optimistic. Planning can be helpful and necessary, but sometimes too much is too much.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer, videographer, and content creator at Bucket List Creative & STL Bucket List. I get to execute photo and video projects, doing everything from pre- to post-production for our clients. We’ve worked with a lot of restaurants, hotels, apartments, and brands in and around St. Louis. It’s awesome getting to work with different businesses and hear their stories. I’ve spent a lot of time traveling and exploring everywhere except for my own city, so I’ve enjoyed doing a deeper dive into what makes St. Louis special. Working with the Four Seasons for the opening of Ramsay’s Kitchen was definitely a career highlight. I grew up watching MasterChef and other cooking shows, so working with Gordon Ramsay and his team was unreal.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned to appreciate any time I get to spend with my family. My mom died rather unexpectedly in December of 2020 from cancer, so I had no idea that all those months we had to spend housebound would actually end up being some of the last memories I have of her. I am so grateful for every moment I got to spend with her in that last year.
