Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyra Clemons
Hi Kyra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My cosmetology journey began during my sophomore year of high school, when I discovered my passion for hair and beauty. However, my plans took a pause when I moved to St. Louis to live with my grandparents. Coming from a military family, my parents didn’t want me moving around during my last two years of high school, so they decided it was best for me to stay in one place. After graduating high school, I played soccer for a semester in college but realized my true calling was still in cosmetology. I returned to hair school and earned my license after graduating from The Salon Professional Academy. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience working in several salons, including the Boulevard Hair Company. Now, I’m proud to be working for myself in my own salon suite, with the ultimate goal of opening my very own salon.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I began my cosmetology journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, enrolling in a cosmetology school and working hard despite the challenges of the time. I was dedicated and came close to completing the program when life took an unexpected turn, and I had to move. This meant transferring to a new school, where I was required to start over from the beginning. While it was frustrating to lose the progress I had made, I stayed determined to pursue my passion. The experience taught me resilience and reaffirmed my commitment to building a successful career in cosmetology.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multifaceted cosmetologist who takes pride in being versatile and adaptable in my craft. I believe that anyone who sits in my chair should feel confident that I can meet their needs, no matter the service they require. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in various areas, working as a hairstylist and makeup artist for several fashion shows and creating memorable looks that shine on the runway. Additionally, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to countless weddings, where I’ve provided both makeup and hairstyling services to help brides and their parties feel stunning on their special day. My diverse experiences have shaped me into a well-rounded professional who thrives on creativity and delivering exceptional results.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think it very important to surround yourself with like minded people, specially people who have accomplished things they you want to and getting advice and guidance. I’ve collaborated with a lot of other creatives and that has opened up so many doors for me!
