Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Scott of Jennifer Scott Med Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Scott

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story to entrepreneurship started 16 years ago when I found myself working night shift as a high-risk Labor and Delivery RN, with two young children. My 4 year old son had recently been diagnosed with a condition that would require him multiple surgeries scheduled every 6 months and my newborn daughter was on a continuous heart monitor. I took a look at my life and realized I needed much more flexibility in my schedule than what a traditional nursing job would allow. I remember walking into my nurse managers office to put my two weeks in, explaining my plan to become a full time makeup artist and after a long pause and a look that said ‘have you lost your mind’, she nodded and said “I will not hold your job for you for when this fails”. I replied “I won’t need you to”

Now you have to remember that 16 years ago makeup artists were not what they are today. In fact it was almost unheard of outside of department stores. There was no Instagram, Tik Tok or followers. Facebook had just started and we were all trying to figure out the bizarreness of it. I started my company with $500, a pink caboodle, and a dream. Back then it was craigslist and word of mouth. So everyday I would post an ad on craigslist offering on-location hair and makeup services. Little by little I grew my business, eventually joining ‘The Knot’ and ‘Wedding Wire’ so that my clients could leave reviews. I’m proud to say we amassed over 400 reviews with a 4.9/5.0 rating.

Fast forward a few years and I get a call from Fox Business Network that they would like to offer me a job as their lead makeup artist/stylist on a new show they were filming called Strange Inheritance. I was flown to Manhattan to meet the host and the crew and for the next two years I traveled with that show from city to city all over the world week to week. From there I started working with celebrities and larger companies such as Target, Porsche, Nike, Bride Magazine, MSNBC, TLC, MTV, YouTube TV, just to name a few. Life on the road was absolutely a dream, I was always flown first class, stayed in 5 star hotels, had a personal driver in each city and had to pinch myself often that this was my life. Here I was, was small town girl who grew up with cows next to her high school football field to now being paid to travel all over the world. I lived every single moment soaking up every memory. Dancing at 3am in Times Square while it was snowing or sailing in Boston Harbor on a beautiful sunny day, those are memories I will always hold dear to my heart that my career has given me.

In 2022 I felt God planting a seed, and after a lot of hard work and the support of my husband and family, I opened Jennifer Scott Med Spa in the St. Louis area June 2023. I am now a full time Aesthetic Nurse Injector offering neurotoxins, fillers, vitamin injections, and much much more. It is a place I am able to combine my three passions: helping others feel and look their best, my extension medical knowledge coupled with my ability to see the face from an aesthetic viewpoint after all of my years as a makeup artists. We continue to have a full bridal team, consisting of 17 artists and accommodate approximately 100 weddings a year. I have not stepped away from the makeup industry as much as I have just stepped back and taken on a mentor role for my team. I love teaching and will always hold classes and mentor up and coming artists. In the spirit of helping others, I created our ‘Day of Blessing’ charity to provide blessing services to those in need. During those events I bring together volunteer artists in our industry and they graciously use their talents to help others. In a little over a year we have been able to bring over 75 beauty professionals together and provide over 224 blessing services in the St. Louis area. Our charity has been featured in Show Me St. Louis and covered by Fox 2 News. We are so honored to work along side the Tim Tebow Foundation, St. Louis Childress Hospital, The Ronald McDonald House, and The Miss Amazing Pageant. It is incredible to watch as God continues to grow this ministry every single month.

And remember that nursing manager that said she wouldn’t hold my job…..My company did all three of her daughters weddings.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anyone who has every started their own business will tell you it is not for the faint of heart. Just when you think you are getting it figured out, you get hit with something unexpected. It is in those moments that you can choose to give up or choose to let those obstacles provide you the opportunity to learn something new and teach you a lesson. There will be a lot of challenges but it’s how you manage them that matters.

When I was first starting building our bridal business, I would fly out to shoot with Fox Business Network on Sunday evening, be on set Monday thru Thursday, fly home Thursday night and then have weddings Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During this time, I was a single mom managing it all. I would work one week, then be home a week. It was incredible difficult but I knew what I was building and that it was for them.

When you are first starting out as an entrepreneur you are the book keeper, payroll, social media manager, website designer, you answer all of the inquires, emails, budget, purchasing, and once all of that is done the real work starts with the client/customer during normal business hours. It is all on you.

As you know, we’re big fans of Jennifer Scott Med Spa. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a Medical Spa located in St. Louis Missouri specializing in Neurotoxins, Filler, Facial Rejuvenation, Vitamin injections, Sculptra, Microblading, Dermaplaning and much more.

I am known mostly for my signature lip injections and full facial balancing, medical knowledge base, as well as our Bridal Team..My many years of being in the beauty industry as a makeup artist have given me an advantage to see a clients face in a whole new way. I am a girls girl and have many injectors reach out to me to ask for suggestions, send me pics and ask for my advice and I love having that reputation.

We are the home of the “Day of Blessing” ministry in which we offer blessing services to those in need of some self care and love as well as provide spa nights and prom for Children’s Hospital. Our ministry has been blessed enough to collaborate with such wonderful foundations such as The Tim Tebow foundation, The Ronald McDonald House as well as the Miss Amazing Pageant.

What sets us apart: We treat every client like they are our only client, we take our time to get to know you, your areas of concern, we go over any questions, over budget and options before we ever get started. We are a no pressure, no judgment spa. The running saying is you walk in as a client but leave as a friend. And I absolutely love that. We understand that aesthetics are a luxury and that clients have a lot of choices, so I designed our spa with our clients in mind, affordable pricing, relaxing music in the treatment rooms, calming atmosphere, private suites, in house six months interest free financing, access to your injector after hours, pillows, blankets and our custom topical numbing so you never feel a needle stick. I focused on creating a personalized Medical Spa and our reviews show that our clients agree.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Growing up my father owned his own construction company, so I am also an amateur carpenter. Anything from framing out walls, laying flooring, installing windows, drywall, fireplaces, plumbing, etc. I can do it all. In fact when we did the build out for the Spa I actually did a lot of the work myself.
