Today we’d like to introduce you to Turning Point
Hi Turning Point , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our story begins with Covid. Yep. If you can believe it-Covid brought us together. Right before the world shut down, Gina (vocals and keys), and Bobby (vocals and bass) were performing with a different band that had just recruited Brett (drums). When the pandemic struck, the other members of the former band wanted to pause. There were still shows to fulfill. We played as a trio, but we are the rhythm section and it was incredibly difficult. Gina ended up calling Kenny (vocals and guitarist) to see if he would be interested. Those two have always tried to coordinate playing together since they were teenagers and it was never able to happen. The stars were beginning to align. The four of us together is a force to be reckoned with. Instant chemistry on all fronts. We are more than just band mates. We are best friends. As soon we got together for that first practice we knew this was it…and the rest is history! Turning Point will be celebrating 5 years together this coming August.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes we’ve been lucky to have formed a group of skilled performers who all had the same goal in mind, to play great music the best we can. We strive to sound better and better and of course it’s a lot of work-but it’s made easy being all together in our vision for the band and our musical goals. All the effort pays off when you see, hear, and feel the enjoyment of the crowd as they rock along with you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a local cover band that provides live entertainment at an assortment of venues, and have a blast doing so! However there is a lot of work behind the scenes. Since we as a band all share the goal to be the best we can, we meet every single week to rehearse. This involves learning new music to keep our set list fresh, upkeep on older material, and a TON of planning. Turning Point specializes in different genres of rock. We are known for playing a variety of hits that is enjoyable for all ages and music lovers. There are two things that sets us apart from others. Three out of the four members are vocalists. There is no “lead singer”. If one of us is singing lead, the others are singing back up. Our harmonies are something to be proud of. We also are like family. We make sure to spend time together socially. Being together so often really helps our ability to read each other on stage and bond as a band.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The people who come to our shows and support us deserve credit. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are. As well as all of the musicians and performers we have had the pleasure to work with throughout our musical careers. They have helped shape us into the entertainers we are today. Our friends are a big reason we are together as well. All four of us are connected in friend groups we weren’t even aware of until we met.
