Today we’d like to introduce you to Branden Michael Lewis
Hi Branden, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I wrote my first rap in second grade and had a reputation as a rapper by fifth. The older I got, the more serious I became about music. By the time I was 20, it wasn’t even an option anymore—developing my craft was all I thought about. I wanted to study the greats and understand what made them legendary. I aimed to be a great writer and performer, but more importantly, I wanted to impact people the way my favorite artists impacted me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. But I don’t think anything worth having is. My first few performances were in middle school, and I forgot my verse almost every time. I’ve had performances snatched from under me moments before hitting the stage—shows I spent hours preparing for, that friends showed up to see, only to be told last minute that I wouldn’t be performing. And that was early on, before I was this serious about being an artist.
When you really want this, it costs you. It strains personal relationships because people want more of your time and attention. It costs you financially because doing this the right way isn’t cheap. You collaborate with people, then fall out with them, and suddenly, a song you once loved becomes a sore spot. The list of roadblocks goes on, but we—those in my corner—aren’t victims. We acknowledge the setbacks, but we don’t live in them. We recover, and we move forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an independent hip-hop artist, specializing in songwriting, recording, and performance. I blend introspective lyrics with energetic performances that keep the crowd engaged while offering relatable and encouraging moments. What sets me apart is my focus on authenticity. I’ve always believed in creating music that’s not just for the moment, but that connects with people on a deeper level—whether through storytelling, vulnerability, or capturing real-life experiences.
I’m most proud of the alignment I’ve found with God through my music. While I’m not considered a Christian artist, I truly believe that my artistry is a partnership with God. I feel like I’m walking in His will, especially when I use my music to help people heal. I write from a very real place, hoping that if I can boldly confront the challenges that oppose me, others will feel emboldened to do the same.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is seeing the impact my music has on people. When I receive messages or hear stories from fans who feel like my songs speak to their own struggles, that’s when I feel fulfilled. I’m also happiest when I’m creating—whether I’m writing lyrics, recording, or performing. There’s something incredibly satisfying about being in a flow state, fully immersed in the process.
But beyond that, happiness for me comes from knowing that I’m walking in alignment with my purpose. When I can combine my love for music, my walk with God, and my desire to help others, that’s when I feel truly at peace. On a personal level, I find joy in spending time with the people I love. Being able to balance my music with quality moments outside of it brings a deeper sense of fulfillment.
