Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Ederer.
Hi Zach, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been in the insurance industry for just under 10 years. I don’t think anyone really grows up wanting to be an insurance Agent, but the opportunity presented itself to me. I took a leap of faith and haven’t looked back.
My first “big boy” job after college was at Enterprise Rent a Car. It was very corporate but taught me a lot. It had benefits, a retirement package, etc.
I met a mentor and former employer while I was working there who was also in the insurance industry. He recruited me to join his team, and I was hesitant to leave the comfortable benefits I was currently getting, but it was the best decision I ever made. Then, after learning the industry for a few years, I accomplished by goal of opening my own Agency!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The insurance industry is extremely volatile especially right now in our ever-changing geopolitical climate. The industry as a whole is going through a “correction.” The greatest challenge is consistency and to avoid the peaks and valleys.
At the end of the day, we need to be constantly closing new business so it can be stressful and worrisome. That is why it is important to trust your team, processes and procedures.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ederer Insurance And Associates LLC?
We are a local American Family Insurance Agency. There’s a common misconception that we are a franchise or that all AmFam locations are, but we are not. AmFam is a Mutual company, not a publicly traded stock company. You cannot buy and sell offices. There is a rigorous interview and approval process.
We specialize in life, business/commercial, home and car insurance. But we offer everything you can think of! Recently, we’ve been insuring horses with our equine insurance program!
We take pride in being family owned and operated and having a location that you can walk into and speak with a real person face to face. I feel as if insurance nowadays is looked at as more of a commodity and it’s too transactional. We may not be a fit for everyone looking for insurance, because we take our time, educate prospects and would rather build our business with quality clients over quantity.
What sets us apart is that when you call in during normal business hours, you’re speaking to us here at our local Agency every single time. We are not call center based, and it’s the same people you’re talking too when you call in, not a different person every time!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
There are a few things. The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you’re going to hear no a lot more than you hear yes. You have to remember, the prospect is saying no to a product or service, not you.
You also never know what someone is going through. We all face personal challenges daily.
Lastly, take care of your clients and employees first, and profits will follow.
