Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Beth Johnson.
Mary Beth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Mary Beth and I am so blessed to be the owner of Mirella Aesthetics and Wellness in Lake St. Louis. In my personal life I am a mother to a 16yr old daughter, and continue to work as-needed at our local Lake-side hospital as a nurse. In my free time I love going for walks with my dog, singing, leading worship at church, traveling, and doing anything outside!
At Mirella we offer medical aesthetic procedures from injectable vitamins, IV therapy wellness, to facial fillers, botox, and skincare treatments, and have an on-site Pelvic Floor and Lymphatic massage specialist- Dr. Bri. With almost 10 years of nursing experience and a masters degree in Adult Gerontology-NP, I have spent much of my nursing career using my God given gifts to care for patients in hospital and surgical settings, and now in aesthetics. This avenue of nursing is not what I thought my future would path would look like, but it has brought more peace & joy than I could have imagined.
In 2021, I was introduced to the Glo STL Network of aesthetic nursing while finishing my masters degree clinicals. With what little money I had in my savings account, I paid for my training and started performing aesthetics out of my home, and various spas that were so kind to give me space to rent. It became apparent within a few months, I was outgrowing my home and needed a convenient centralized location to better serve my clients, which also meant an official LLC for a brick & mortar storefront.
The name Mirella Aesthetics came to me through a lot of google searching and prayer. When I landed on the name Mirella, being a Hebrew name meaning “God Spoke,” it felt perfectly fitting for a business that I was faithfully handing over to the Lord to speak His life into. This name felt so right, and I continue to pray each day that I continue to be a vessel for the voice of God to speak through me to my clients. Through a turn of divine interactions in early 2022, nine months in to starting my part- time business, I was moving into my new office at 400 Lake St. Louis blvd. A peaceful, serene, waterfront location in Lake St. Louis, MO, a complete gem that felt impossible it was now mine! Over the last 3 years at this location we have continued to strengthen our skills, build clientele, host community events, and added wonderful providers to our team. This office space has been nothing short of a miracle, bringing so much love, healing, and peace to us and our clients who enter this space. We are so grateful to be here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Beginning a business always has its challenges from finding clients, legalities, paperwork, insurance, etc.. but even with that being true, I am grateful to say the challenges were easier to overcome with the faith and belief that God was speaking life into this business the whole time.
The hardest part personally for me was overcoming the fear of inadequacy or “imposter syndrome.”
“Can I really do this? Can I own and successfully operate a business?” Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. I remember writing that scripture on one of our old whiteboards at the office the first year of business and continue to remind myself of this each day! Anything is possible through Christ and our challenges are only there to improve us and help us grow. Owning a business will test your faith, patience, abilities, emotions, and more, but like anything in life, if it’s worth it- you’ll work for it.

At Mirella Aesthetics & Wellness we specialize in aesthetic enhancements designed to highlight the natural beauty in our clients and help them to feel their best. Our most-liked services include in Botox treatments, skin rejuvenation through VI Peel and Microneedling, and IV/IM Injection Wellness therapy. As a provider, I offer my clients a peaceful and personalized experience, helping them to get the results that they desire through consistency and proper education on treatments, at-home skincare, and lifestyle changes that support inward and outward beauty.
The part of my business that I am most proud of is the peace that the office brings not only to my clients, but to myself and the providers that work here. Both of my providers work completely for themselves, which sets us apart from other medical spas in the area. This freedom allows them to book as needed, set their own prices, and feel fulfilled by their own efforts without having quotas or commissions. Aesthetic industries can sometimes feel very competitive & comparative, leaving room for insecurity, but as a business owner and a woman of Faith, I want to encourage everyone to trust the process, trust that God is and will provide for you, and to enjoy the highs and lows of business owning! Peace is priceless, and I am grateful every day for the environment we have cultivated at Mirella.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Over the last few years the best podcast I have listened to is The Bible in a Year by Father Mike Schmitz. He is hands-down the best voice to listen to when it comes to reading old texts like the bible, and after a while felt like I was listening to a friend, I’d love to hang out with him. A book that I read a few years ago, but still reference in my life today is The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer- a book about the beauty of letting go and living in the moment. And recently, I completed the book Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey, sound cheesy but it was so helpful to help me organize not only my business finances but my personal life as well and head towards a debt-free life. I love listening to books about nutrition, holistic healing, herbal medicine and more!
