Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Benjamin Hendrix.
Hi Dr. Hendrix, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was introduced to the amazing world of chiropractic care due to a football injury in high school. I was blown away by what the chiropractor was able to do not only to help my injury but to get me back on the field and performing better than I was before. I quickly set my eyes on becoming a chiropractor that could help athletes and active individuals achieve the same results I had. I graduated from Logan University in 2014. Upon graduation, I opened up Tross Spine and Sports Performance. My hope and dream was to blend the benefits of traditional chiropractic care with soft tissue/manual therapies and exercise therapy. This three headed treatment approach was driven from the thought of helping our patients continue to do what they love, pain free, but also to equip them for the things that an active lifestyle throws at you. This approach is what quickly set us apart in the field. Since opening up in 2014, we have grown to have two doctors on staff, 5 total employees, and often a clinical intern. We now have added technologies and tools blended with our traditional approach to help the professional athletes, active families, and young athletes recover from injury and increase their performance.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first opened the doors to my chiropractic office, I had no patients, no marketing budget, and no roadmap—just a vision, a set of keys, and a belief that the way people moved, healed, and lived could be better.
Starting from zero meant every win mattered. But every day also brought new challenges. I wasn’t offering traditional chiropractic care. My approach focused on active individuals—athletes, weekend warriors, and everyday people—who wanted to stay in the game of life, pain-free and without dependency on endless visits. I wasn’t selling quick fixes. I was guiding people toward movement, self-care, and long-term strength. Ironically, it meant I was teaching people how to need me less. It’s a tough pitch when your business model is, “Let me help you not need my business.”
In the background, real life kept knocking. There were many months I couldn’t take a paycheck. The weight of watching my wife carry our home financially—relying on her teaching salary to float both our personal bills and the clinic’s red numbers—was heavy. I worked multiple jobs doing PRN work for the Joint Chiropractic and worked multiple positions for the city of St. Peters as a personal trainer and headed up their employee wellness program. It tested us for sure, but the things we learned along the way and the people we met in that process were a blessing.
There were moments where it would’ve been easy to pivot—offer the standard care model, shorten appointments, upsell products, fudge the mission just to make ends meet. But we didn’t. I didn’t. I chose to stay true to what I believed chiropractic could be. It took patience and conviction to trust that if we built it the right way, the right people would come.
And they did.
As the years passed, we grew—not just in patients, but in purpose. The struggles changed. Now, the challenges are less about survival and more about expansion, excellence, and staying innovative. But the lessons from those lean years will always shape how we operate. We built something real, something honest, and something that’s now been standing for 12 years.
We’re only here because of family, because of community, and because we didn’t give up when it would have been easier to quit.
This is more than a chiropractic office. It’s a reminder that grit, faith, and integrity can still build something lasting.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
TROSS is an innovative, new age facility taking chiropractic care to the next level. Our passion lies in treating all individuals through evidence-based chiropractic, rehabilitation, soft tissue manipulation and functional movement testing.
TROSS uses the most up to date research in chiropractic, rehab, and sports biomechanics to put each and every one
of our patients at the top of their game. We desire a properly functioning nervous system and body for each and every patient. We don’t follow the path to “sickness care.” Instead, we show each and every patient how to live well and reach his or her optimal abilities through cutting edge health care and sports medicine practices.
Our office offers traditional chiropractic care, soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release, Graston and cupping. We also have the highest form of technology to gain analytics for our patients. This technology allows us to gain objective numbers on strength, mobility, explosiveness, balance, symmetries and much more. We know the importance of rehab and exercise, so our doctors also prescribe at home or virtual rehab programs to assist in patient outcomes.
The name of our business is shortened from the word albatross (an obstacle or problem in ones life limiting them from reaching their goal or full potential.) Tross Spine and Sports Performance has a mission to help alleviate those albatrosses for our patients.
We are most proud that our brand is known most commonly as TROSS. This is a symbol that our patients know that we are more than just chiropractic care, or a sports rehab facility. We are a business that aims to blend multiple approaches to use every beneficial avenue for our patients to reach their highest potential. Secondarily we are proud that our business has become known for our outreach in the youth sports community. A part of our mission when starting the business was to be able to give back to youth sports. We are proud that for the last 11 years we have been giving back to local youth sports in the forms of donations and physical equipment. We have two different avenues to raise funds for our donations. The first is a yearly golf tournament and the other is our 50% donation promise on all sports physicals we perform. We are proud to say that over the last 11 years our business has donated over $75,000 back to youth sports in the greater St. Charles and St. Louis areas.
We currently have added a service in our office called the TROSS Performance Lab. This a membership service focused on the prevention of injury and performance enhancement for young athletes ages 10-21 yo. The program is designed into three legs. The first portion is a monthly athlete assessment in which we utilize groundbreaking technology to drive the important analytics to predict strengths, imbalances, weaknesses and to prevent possible future injury . The second portion is a virtual rehab program for the athlete which is derived from the analytics we gain in step one and the patients’ goals. The third leg is a weekly or biweekly preventive treatment in which we utilize our class IV medical laser, soft tissue techniques, personal stretching and body work to make sure the bumps and bruises are addressed before they become injuries. We are so excited for this program because it is forward thinking for these young athletes. Youth sports are more competitive than ever and the demand is higher than ever. As the great quote goes “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” and these young athletes deserve this avenue of care.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We would love to collaborate with other medical professionals, coaches, sports performance trainers and individuals looking to take the next healthy step for their families. TROSS is not just a facility for the professional athlete; we believe everyone deserves elite care. Whether you work with professional athletes or weekend warriors, everyone’s goal to move, perform, and live at their highest potential matters equally, Thats why we deliver the same top level treatment and evaluation to everyone who walks through our doors because excellence in care doesn’t have to be just reserved for the pros; its a standard we all deserve. Help us unlock the elite athlete in everyone.
