Hi Daryl, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The journey began with a simple yet profound idea. ASF ( Always Stay Focus) is a brand built off of hard work and dedication it all started in 2019. I took my first significant step by releasing my debut track, “New ASFBOOM single” on March 6, 2019. The track quickly garnered attention, resonating with listeners and igniting a spark within me that motivated me to continue creating music. This initial success was exhilarating, and it fueled my passion for the craft. Later that same year, while immersed in the creative process and experimenting with various beats in the studio, I produced “Blowed Up,” which was released on April 21, 2019. At that point, my understanding of the music industry was still quite limited; I was navigating uncharted waters without the connections and resources that I would later acquire.
A pivotal moment in my journey occurred when the talented artist Pooh Shiesty remixed my track, rebranding it as “Guard Up,” which he released on January 14, 2021. This unexpected remix opened my eyes to the broader possibilities within the music industry and highlighted the critical importance of proper publishing, licensing, and trademarking of my work. It became clear to me that to thrive in this competitive landscape, I needed to protect my creations and ensure that my artistic contributions were recognized and valued. As a result, I made the difficult decision to take a few months off from releasing new music. During this time, I focused on securing my future in the industry by educating myself on the intricacies of music rights and the business side of artistry. This early lesson proved invaluable for my growth as an artist, laying a solid foundation for my future endeavors and instilling in me a sense of responsibility toward my craft.
In my journey of returning to music production, I made the strategic decision to partner with DistroKid as my distribution platform. This choice was driven by DistroKid’s user-friendly interface and its reputation for helping independent artists reach a wider audience. Between 2020 and 2023, I dedicated myself to honing my craft and building my presence in the music industry. Through relentless effort and creativity, I achieved an impressive milestone by independently generating 1.4 million streams across various platforms. This accomplishment not only validated my passion for music but also fueled my ambition to continue creating and sharing my work with the world.
In 2024, I took a significant step forward in my musical journey by releasing the track “Bankroll.” This project was particularly special to me as it marked a collaboration with the talented DJ Tab at Funky Dope Recording Studio. Working alongside Josh B., a skilled producer known for his innovative sound, allowed me to explore new creative avenues and push the boundaries of my music. The synergy in the studio was palpable, and together we crafted a track that not only resonated with my artistic vision but also showcased the unique talents of everyone involved. As I look ahead, I am excited about the possibilities that lie before me and eager to continue sharing my music with an ever-growing audience.
Early this year in January I launched “The Focus Podcast,” where we delve into the concept of success. Each guest brings their unique perspective, highlighting the diverse paths individuals take to achieve their goals. We explore various strategies for personal and professional growth, offering insights on how to enhance one’s journey and foster community development.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life’s journey is neither entirely smooth nor consistently fraught with obstacles; rather, it encompasses a mix of both. Each of us encounters our own set of challenges, yet we possess the ability to shape our perspective on these experiences. By maintaining a clear and open mindset, we can navigate difficulties more effectively. Ultimately, with determination and focus, we can achieve whatever we set our minds to.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My journey began in my teenage years when I first experimented with sound, using basic software to create beats and melodies. Over time, I immersed myself in various genres, learning the intricacies of each and developing a unique style that blends elements from different musical traditions. This versatility has allowed me to collaborate with a diverse range of artists, from emerging talents to established musicians, each project enriching my understanding of music and expanding my creative horizons.
