Check Out Kathryn Gaither’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Gaither.

Kathryn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Community has always been at the heart of everything I do. I started with the Union Area Chamber of Commerce because I believe in the power of connection — bringing people, businesses, and ideas together to create growth and pride in our community.

Over time, my role has evolved from organizing events to building partnerships, leading initiatives that strengthen our community, and helping local businesses thrive.

Every day, I get to combine creativity, strategy, and heart — whether it’s planning a major event like WingFest, supporting business owners, or finding new ways to make Union a place where people want to live, work, and grow. I’m proud of how far we’ve come and excited about where we’re headed next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Balancing the needs of a growing community with limited resources and volunteer capacity has been a continual challenge. Like many community organizations, there’s a constant need to stretch creativity, time, and funding to make things happen.

Another obstacle has been finding ways to modernize and engage younger generations while honoring the traditions that built our community. Introducing new tools, events, and programs—like our app, digital communications, and youth initiatives—has required patience, persistence, and education along the way.

Through each challenge, I’ve also had to learn the art of balance—between serving a community I love, showing up for my three active daughters, and remembering that self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. My three active daughters keep me running from one activity to the next, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. They’re my reason to push harder, to set an example of service, passion, and perseverance.

Each hurdle has taught me the value of collaboration, consistency, and grace. These experiences haven’t just strengthened our Chamber and community—they’ve shaped me into a more grounded leader, mom, and person.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the Executive Director of the Union Area Chamber of Commerce, I specialize in connecting people, ideas, and opportunities to help our community grow. My work focuses on strengthening local businesses, organizing events that bring people together, and developing initiatives that revitalize downtown Union through programs like Rediscover Union.

I’m most proud of creating experiences that unite our community—whether it’s a small gathering, the county fair, or a new way for businesses to promote themselves. What sets me apart is my ability to blend creativity with collaboration—turning visions into action by bringing multiple organizations and personalities together around a shared goal.

Balancing leadership, family, and community isn’t always easy, but it’s deeply rewarding. I’ve learned that success doesn’t mean having it all perfectly together—it means showing up, giving your best, and finding a way to make it work each day. I’m proud of the messy, meaningful balance of it all—the late nights, the early mornings, and the moments in between that remind me why I do what I do. My girls inspire me to lead with heart, serve with purpose, and keep moving forward, no matter how full life gets.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, isn’t defined by titles or numbers — it’s about the impact.
I define success as using my skills, passions, and opportunities to make a meaningful difference in my community and in the lives of others. It’s about creating connections, inspiring growth, and leaving things better than I found them. Success is seeing progress — in people, programs, and partnerships — and knowing I played a small part in that transformation.

It’s also about balance: being proud of the work I do while staying grounded in faith, family, and purpose. True success means showing up (even if it’s in my pajamas) — for my community, for my work, and for the people I love — and finding joy in the process, not just the results. It’s the messy process, not perfection, that makes the greatest impact.

At the end of the day, success is about the willingness to just show up, keep going, and never give up — even when it’s hard, even when it’s imperfect — because that’s where the real growth and impact happen.
