Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Scott.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Jazzercise as a member long before I ever imagined owning a studio. At the time, I was just looking for a workout that felt fun and sustainable, something that fit into real life and didn’t feel intimidating. Over the years it became a part of my daily routine and honestly a part of my identity. I loved the music, the energy, and the people it attracted.
As my career grew professionally, I still found myself drawn to the community aspect of Jazzercise. Eventually I had the opportunity to take over my first location in South County. It was never part of a plan, but I trusted the timing and stepped into ownership. A few years later I acquired the St. Peters studio as well. Now I balance running two locations while also working full time in healthcare finance. It is a lot, but I genuinely love what Jazzercise brings into people’s lives and that makes the work worth it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a straight line. Running two studios while working full time in healthcare finance has required a level of balance and discipline that I had to learn over time. Some seasons feel easy and others feel like every decision is critical.
One of the biggest challenges has been the constant evolution of the fitness industry. Member expectations shift, trends move quickly, and competition is everywhere. After the pandemic, people’s routines changed and I had to rebuild momentum in both studios while also redefining what consistency looked like for members.
Another challenge has been perception. Many people still think of the old version of Jazzercise, so part of my work has been educating the community on how modern, athletic, and professionally led our workouts are today. Changing long standing assumptions takes time, but it is worth it when someone takes a class and says they had no idea it was this effective.
Internally, building and maintaining strong instructor teams is always a priority. My instructors have full lives outside the studio, just like I do, so creating a supportive environment while still holding a high bar for training and class quality can be a balancing act. But it is one of the most important parts of sustaining a healthy studio culture.
These challenges have shaped me into a more strategic and intentional leader. They forced me to stay focused on data, stay flexible, and keep our members at the center of every decision.
As you know, we’re big fans of Jazzercise St. Louis & Jazzercise St. Peters. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is Jazzercise St. Louis South County and Jazzercise St. Peters. Both locations offer a full schedule of dance cardio, strength training, and sculpt formats that are designed to be fun, effective, and accessible for all fitness levels. We focus on delivering workouts that are high energy and professionally taught, with an emphasis on safety, proper technique, and building confidence.
What sets us apart is the combination of community and quality. Jazzercise has been around for decades, but the program today is modern and athletic. We train hard to deliver classes that feel polished and intentional. My instructors are committed to ongoing training, staying current on routines, and creating a positive experience every time someone walks through the door.
We are known for being welcoming studios where people feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are. There is no judgment, no pressure, and no expectation to fit a certain mold. You will see every age, every stage of life, and every level of fitness in our classes. That mix is what makes our community strong.
Brand wise, I am most proud of elevating the look and feel of both studios. Clean, organized spaces, consistent messaging, professional presentation, and a commitment to member experience all matter to me. I want people to see Jazzercise the way I see it: as a high quality fitness program that rivals any major brand in the industry.
What I want readers to know is that Jazzercise is not the stereotype many people still picture. It is a full body workout with real strength training, muscle work, and cardio conditioning. It is led by instructors who care deeply about your safety and progress. And it is a place where you can build friendships, confidence, and consistency.
Whether someone is returning to fitness, looking for something new, or simply wanting a place where the hour feels good, our studios offer that. My goal is always the same: deliver a great class, make people feel welcomed, and help them leave feeling better than when they arrived.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The fitness industry is changing quickly, and I think the next decade will be defined by a much more personalized, community driven approach. People are looking for workouts that feel meaningful, not just transactional. They want connection, accountability, and a place that becomes part of their routine and support system. Boutique studios that can deliver that sense of belonging will continue to grow.
I also see a strong shift toward programs that blend strength training with cardio in a way that feels approachable. The days of extreme fitness and high pressure environments are fading. People want workouts that support long term health, balance, and injury prevention. Jazzercise fits that trend naturally because it combines athletic movement with strength and mobility work while still keeping it fun.
Technology will continue to play a role, but I believe the in person experience will remain essential. Virtual options are convenient, but most people come back to in person classes for the energy, the coaching, and the connection. Studios that understand how to use technology to enhance the member experience without replacing it will have the advantage.
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I think the biggest differentiator will be quality. High level instruction, well trained staff, and safe programming will matter more than ever as consumers become smarter and more selective. That aligns with how I run my studios today. My focus is on delivering professional instruction, creating strong community, and offering a workout that people can do consistently for years.
