Inspiring Conversations with Brandon Monzyk of Square One Creatives

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Monzyk.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Square One Creatives was born in mid-2013. With a full-time job in the real estate software industry, I spent my evening and weekends marketing to REALTORS, selling my video services. At the time, video in real estate was mostly non-existent. Fast forward about a year, my wife and I agreed we could buy our first drone if I felt I could possibly make money doing it. My goal was to ease into things and eventually go full-time in real estate media. That drone was a big purchase for us at the time. Being a new technology, drones were very expensive. I was soon one of the first to adopt drone media in the St. Louis area. I went and got my FAA clearance and never looked back. Fast forward a bit, I captured an aerial video of Parkway West High School for a family friend who also happened to be a REALTOR. The video went somewhat viral and I soon realized I could make a business out of this. I began marketing my drone skills along with my video. Agents would ask me if I do photography as well…..um, sure I do? (as I run to YouTube to learn a new skill). Soon I would have the knowledge necessary to perform just about every real estate media service that existed at that time. I quickly gained traction in the St. Louis real estate scene. Many days spent presenting at brokerages and team meetings.

The business grew quickly and in 2019 I had a decision to make. With one of my two daughters turning two years old, after many nights of staying up all night editing and playing customer service agent, I had to pick a direction. It was getting to be too much to handle as a sole entrepreneur. I either needed a team to scale the business or scale back a bit to get my work-life balance back. Naturally, I chose to scale Square One. I brought on my now business partner and we hired our first employee that year.

Fast forward to today, after many ups and downs, we are a team of 35 humans operating in 5 states. Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, South Carolina and Florida. We captured 6,000 homes in 2025 and expect to capture roughly 7,000 in 2026.

St. Louis is where it all started and where we will always continue to operate Square One. It is truly our HQ. The local REALTORS along with the centers of influence in the St. Louis real estate world are what made us who we are today. I will be forever grateful for the things I have learned and continue to learn from the great real estate family I am a part of here in St. Louis.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a business is never a smooth road. Especially when you have a team. As the leader, you have to always make sure your team is satisfied first. That was a hard concept to grasp at first but the team truly makes the company who they are. Square One would be nothing without the people. Being a leader is tough and can be a rollercoaster at times. It gets easier every day as long as the right people are along for the ride. As of today, we have the strongest team we have ever had. When things get tougher with scaling, they get easier with the right systems, processes and team members.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was growing up in a small town and knowing everyone. I was big into basketball and baseball. If was not at school, I was out running around New Haven, MO with my friends, usually playing basketball at a neighbor’s house. I also got to go on some pretty memorable family trips. That will also stick with me forever.
