Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Boekesch.
Hi Josh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started The Scene a little over a year ago after noticing there wasn’t really a consistent place to find info on local music throughout the week. There also wasn’t a place that was consistently showcasing various artists in the city. I’ve always loved this city and wanted people to know just how talented the people from here are, so I thought to myself, “Why don’t I just do it?”. So I did.
In just over a year, we’ve promoted 100’s of artists, covered two festivals, thrown two shows and been there to cover countless others. We’ve met some amazing people and allowed them to tell their story through “The Scene Talks Podcast”, and we’re just getting started. The next year is going to be filled with a lot of incredible moments for The Scene and the city of Saint Louis.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The process has been incredibly smooth so far due to the overall mutual appreciation between local artists and our page. The local scene is very special. There’s a love and a bond between everyone involved. The people that have favorite local performers and see them regularly getting together with newer fans and immediately welcoming them into the circle is a wonderful thing to see. The bands will pretty much always stick around to watch and support the other bands on the bill and will do whatever it takes to spread the word on performers besides themselves. Everyone just works together going towards one similar goal and its made working with so many of them absolutely wonderful.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Scene . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The main goal of The Scene is to get the word out on local musicians and share content of their music whenever we get a chance. We also like to include all genres of music into our work. There are some other pages that kind of focus on certain kinds of bands from time to time. Our goal is to spread the word on as many artists as possible to try and get as many people as we can out to support them.
The thing I’m most proud of about the brand is how much we’ve actually been able to cover in the last year. Multiple festivals, several shows, and so many events to showcase independent music and the city as a whole.
We’ve also recently started building our online article presence with our new Substack, so there will be plenty of information and reviews coming soon. Also, we are hoping to get more into booking and promoting of certain “The Scene” bands/performers and get their music all over the country.
Any big plans?
For the future, we’re looking forward to putting on more shows and building a stable of artists to represent and help really get the word out on their music. We’d also like to establish Saint Louis as a must stop on tours for traveling independent artists, giving the people of Saint Louis some of the absolute best in music today.
