Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Fisher.
Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We have been life long entrepreneurs. Michael started his entrepreneur journey while still in high school and while working at the Galaxy Movie theatre. When he was not working at the theatre he was doing concrete work. At 22 he went full time in the concrete flatwork industry and grow that business to later include waterproofing and foundation repair. Katie came in to support the business in 2006 and also start a few additional business along the way. Katie started an etsy shop selling crochet items in 2013 and still continues to sell on etsy to this day. We run a very successful concrete and foundation repair company for over 22 years. Along the way we remodel, built, and sold 10+ houses. In 2024 after a very serious medical scare we decided that it was time to slow down and take in life a little bit more. So we sold the foundation repair company and took life slow for a bit.
I forgot to mention that during this time in 2019 Katie started a virtual assistant business which is now a successful marketing agency that supports 14+ clients and has 3 amazing contractors who work along side me to support our clients. In the winter of 2024 we heard about the Galaxy theatre being for sale and begin talking about this possible being in our future. We begin discussion with the past owners and in September 2025 we took ownership on the Galaxy Theatre. We have two teenagers and we know that our next adventure we wanted to do it with them the Galaxy felt like the perfect fit and now we get to work along side our kids and hopefully one day will be able to pass the business along to them
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing has been easy for us. We did not come from entrepreneurs we both parents who worked traditional groups so we had no idea what it took to ran a business. Everything that we learned we learned the hard way. When we purchased the theatre mike had a good understanding of the industry however it had been 20 years and things have changed alot. Our first few months we learned alot of thing the hard way everything felt like a challenge. Now 7 months in things feel a bit easier but everyday we are facing new challenges and in this industry things are always changing but we love to always be learning. We have scarify a lot to get to were we are
We’ve been impressed with Galaxy Cinema 10 INC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We purchased the Galaxy Theatre in September in 2025 the theatre industry has been hit hard since covid and was struggling to survive. The Galaxy was no different and has had its own set of challenges. We wanted to bring the life back to the theatre that it once had when Mike worked there in the early 2000’s We know very little about the actually operations of the theatre but we know we could figure it out. We have put everything that we had into the theatre and challenged ourselves to think outside the box. We know that one of our biggest challenges was to get people to come back and see that the theatre has changed. We come up with the idea during the holiday season of offering a free holiday movie every weekend from thanksgiving until Christmas. What started as an idea to help bring customer back turned into so much more. We got the opportunity to connect and give back to our community. We heard over and over how this was their first time at the movies. We know that this was something that we had to do more often we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to come to the movies, but understand that it may not fit in everyone budget. We have developed a community involvement plan that includes a free movie once per quarter and we have parter with our local food bank to help support them as well with these events. The theatre started as a passion for our family but has turned into so much more. We are currently working on creating sensory friendly screenings that include a sensory friendly environment from the moment they walk in the door
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
We are risking on the theatre the movie industry is a gamble right now. We depend on the studios to make good movies. If we don’t have good content we don’t have customers. We are taking a risk updating the theatre hoping that by investing in the theatre and improving the experience will bring the people back. We have always been risk takers and are not afaird to bet it all on one idea but I am not going to lie there was been a few bust for us since purchasing the theatres and things that we will not do again but sometime you don’t know unless you try.
