Exploring Life & Business with Brandee And Corrine Oppelt of OppeltGrooming LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandee And Corrine Oppelt.

Hi Brandee and Corrine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
OppetGrooming is a mother-daughter business that came together in a way neither of them originally expected.

Brandee began her career as a registered dietitian for the United States Navy. After retiring, she realized she wanted to spend the next chapter of her life doing something more hands-on with animals. A local veterinary clinic gave her the opportunity to attend grooming school, and nearly five years later she still enjoys the work every day.

Three years ago, one week before Brandee’s daughter Corrine’s high school graduation, Corrine experienced her first grand mal seizure. At first, it was hoped to be a one time event. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In August– just two days before Corrine was set to leave for college 1,500 miles away on the West Coast–she experienced a second seizure and was diagnosed with Epilepsy.

With that diagnosis, Corrine’s plans had to change. Instead of a staying at college, she chose to move home after her 3rd grand mal seizure wiped out her memory and college was no longer an option. After a long recovery, she decided to attend grooming school and pursue a new path working with animals.

Once Corrine graduated from grooming school, Brandee was ready for a change from the veterinary clinic, and Corrine needed a grooming environment that would be safe and accommodating. Those circumstances ultimately led to the creation of OppeltGrooming.

Today, OppeltGrooming operates as a calm, kennel-free grooming space where pets receive a patient, dual-grooming approach. Whether pets visit for grooming, boarding, walks, or simply extra attention and comfort, the goal remains the same:

To treat every pet like a member of the family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Corrine has still had some challenges with adjusting to her diagnosis and new life. Every time she has a seizure there are a few things I have to remind her about. Mostly clients names.

Working as a mother daughter team is also challenging. We fight hard and we love hard sometimes within the same 20 minutes.

And last but not least, the growing pains are tough. You do not know, what you don’t know. We were victims of cyber fraud just 2 weeks ago and lost 1/3 of our bank account. Bank won’t help, debt card fraud and business account = no help. Insurance only covers physical money stolen Not cyber money, and Priceline, the company that approved the charge says too bad so sad, so we are out 2k. That is a lot of grooms.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about OppeltGrooming LLC?
We are an in home dog grooming company that focuses on 2 groomers with every client. Great for anxious dogs, senior dogs, or Just dogs that hate grooming. One loves on the dog while the other grooms. We can switch up who does what to provide a better energy if we need to. No kennels ever. One family at a time.

We have 2 tag lines; just your dog, all of our attention

We treat your pet like family.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in God and hard work. We have a very supportive family! My husband can pay the family expenses with his income and corrine can live rent free with grandma so we have less worries about money and we can focus on grooming and marketing. We are also blessed with good friends that got us involved in a great networking group that has helped us learn so much!
