Today we’d like to introduce you to John Gelineau.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Mushrooms Naturally is a gourmet mushroom farm dedicated to providing the finest quality ingredients to the St. Louis culinary scene and beyond. We offer mushrooms, mushroom-infused sea salts, at-home grow kits, Koji fermented products such as soy sauce and miso, compost and soil, classes, dinners and more!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are a small business that provides a lot of product to local restaurants and customers at local farmers markets and other small business retail shops. There is nothing easy about the restaurant business or small business these days. When restaurants are slow so are we. As such, we recently moved into our new location and have been trying to reach out more direct to customers through our retail store front, classes and even multi course dinners and highlight our local seasonal products.

We’ve been impressed with Mushrooms Naturally LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Founder and Chef John Gelineau has been in the culinary business for over a decade. His career has taken him from one of the top country clubs in the nation to the Culinary Olympics. John’s passion for excellent ingredients grown with skill and care led him to cultivate his own mushrooms as a hobby. Eventually, that hobby evolved into a working mushroom farm that supplies the top restaurants and country clubs in St. Louis!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love to see things grow. I love to harvest fresh products from the forest or the farm and get inspired to cook or offer the products to local chefs and home cooks to be inspired by and hear how they used them.
