Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Rivera- Randell.
Hi Nadine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began over 25 years ago after taking my first yoga class. While I couldn’t name it at the time, I knew deep inside of me something sparked. Little did I know that class would be the catalyst for where I am today. As I began my own holistic healing journey, I learned about so many others dealing with a diagnosis or worse, still trying to find the answers to what was happening. Over time, I realized that bodies aren’t broken. That so much of what people are going though are issues from a stuck nervous system. This shows up as being stuck in survival mode, inflammation, feeling overwhelmed, exhaustion and complaints of knots in the body. This realization changed everything for me.
While I was teaching yoga, I started deep diving into bodywork that supports healing on a deeper level. I was learning about Ayurveda, Reiki and essential oils. Then the pandemic hit. Since I wasn’t an essential worker, I stayed home and decided to take my career to the next level and I began massage therapy school. What began as a passion for helping women quickly evolved into crating a space where they could feel safe and finally exhale.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s that saying that goes “Nothing worth doing ever came easy”.
I didn’t start yoga teacher training until I was 35, 41 when I started massage school. Since the pandemic wasn’t exactly over, massage therapy school was virtual. When we had to go into the school to apply what we’ve just learned, the school had to be careful to only allow 2-3 of us at a time.
Massage school was intense. Hours of work EVERYDAY while raising a family and since the yoga studio hadn’t reopened yet, I was earning money by door dashing, I decided early into school that I wanted to focus on Ayurveda bodywork. There was an Ayurveda based massage school in another state and I was able to enroll and do virtual classes. This meant when school was over with on Friday, I prepared for Ayurveda school for Saturday and Sunday. This lasted 8 months. It would’ve taken me longer to get my hours had I not doubled enrolled.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was known as My Nadine before I could walk. My family and friends have always referred to me as being their Nadine. I didn’t officially make that my business name until just a few years ago. Some know me from my early days as Yoga Mighty.
Today my work is about helping others regulate their nervous systems, reduce pain and inflammation, move better and listen to what the body has been trying to communicate all along. My bodywork is rooted in Ayurveda, Myofascial Release, Prenatal massage, and Lymphatic. Every treatment is intentional, Every client that walks through my door reminds me why I chose this path.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
As a transplant from NYC, I’d say the best thing about STL is the affordability! I’d say the least thing I like is the deep seated social divisions.
