Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Hall.
Hi Jada, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since a young age I was fairly decent at drawing an enjoyed doing it in my free time- however never considered it could be the career I would pursue as an adult. About Sophomore year of college at UMKC, I fell back in love with art and learning about it, so I changed my major from Psychology to Studio Art. That’s when I developed my passion for figure art and painting with different mediums.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road by any means! Even after finally deciding what I wanted to study and devote my time to, it was a lot of work physically and mentally. Things do not always come easy to me, they can be extremely frustrating to figure out and learn. Digital art (like photoshop and photography) was very difficult to catch on to but a necessary struggle I had to learn to navigate. However once I get over those obstacles and learn, it is a skill that I gain and can apply to my next project.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lately I have been doing a lot of painting with acrylic paints and pens, however one of my favorite is Sumi ink. Figure art and surreal landscapes or kind of abstract art is how I might describe my style, however that is something I’ve always struggled to label about myself and at this point I accept that my style may not fit a certain box or category. I’m always proud when I can push myself to make something better than what I made before. I believe I can only improve and get better, and taught by my UMKC professors to never fall too in love with my art, there is always room to improve and grow. I think maybe my art could be known for being a little moody and abstract, however I really enjoy doing commissions and creating art that resonates with people and brings us all together.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to work with good people and for a good cause. Human rights, equality and activism are very important to me and in my own way I project my feelings through my art, like many of my fellow artists do. I am always open to new opportunities, reach out to me via email, social media or if you see me around the city! I absolutely feel supported when my work is shared and piques the interest of anyone who interprets meaning from it. Being able to encourage people to tap into their creativity and express themselves is extremely important and inspiring for me.
