Check Out Megan And Shane’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan And Shane.

Hi Megan and Shane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Both of us before we met were in different music scenes and did a lot of touring and playing around the country. We met in MN running music schools for kids. We realized we really worked well together and we started talking about our love of Country, Punk and Ska music. So we did what any other co-workers would do and started 2 bands. A ska band and an Americana band. We got the opportunity to move to AZ and open 3 music schools.
We got married at the Stax Museum of Soul in Memphis, TN and the night before we recorded at Sun Records with Grammy winning producer Matt Ross Spang.

In Phoenix we started a 7 piece soul influenced band named Aunt B. We played some great shows with George Clinton and the Pfunk Allstars and Fishbone.
We realized that we wanted to do more singer/songwriter music and started Megan and Shane. During Covid, we really started writing more and ended up selling our house to fund our album Daughter of Country. Then we sold everything and moved to Nashville.
In Nashville, we were welcomed with open arms and received the opportunity to record with Grammy winning engineer/producer Brandon Bell (Brandi Carlile, the Highwomen, Billy Strings etc…)

Nashville was a tough time for us after Megan was carjacked, so we packed up the bags again and moved to St. Louis to be closer to family and the Mid-West vibe we grew up with in MN/WI and Chicago.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. There have been challenges along the way, but as we have dug deeper into our souls in our songwriting, we have had to face some tough emotions. We are always wanting to write our truth and sometimes, it’s hard to look at the past and realize there is so much pain. But in that, we have found our path to healing. Late night talks and writing sessions have helped us to find ourselves individually and as a married couple.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
First and foremost we are songwriters. Shane has been writing songs since he was 7 years old and Megan has written songs for most of her life as well.
In the small town in WI that Shane grew up, he was a dreamer and made several of his dreams come true. He toured around the country playing on festivals and Warped Tours and opening up for bands like Social Distortion, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Smashmouth, Slightly Stoopid and many more. Megan was playing places like the Smoke Daddy in Chicago and after she moved to Charleston, SC she was a regular fixture in the bluegrass, country scene.

We write and we tour. (We have a hobby of grocery shopping and delivery driving that helps pay the bills).

We are known for wearing our hearts on our sleeves and not shying away from feelings. Our hopes are that people can connect with our words and heal during difficult times as our lives have been tough but we have found love and growth with communication and performing.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being kind and empathetic and realizing that everyone has their own story and journey.
