Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmy Sauer.
Hi Kimmy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to entrepreneurship was an unexpected surprise. As a mom of three, I was balancing the demands of family life with a career in human resources while also supporting my husband’s small business, which often required long hours and a lot of sacrifice from our family.
In 2021, I made the decision to leave the corporate world and stay home with my children. While I loved having that time with them, I quickly realized I needed something that challenged me creatively and gave me a sense of purpose beyond motherhood.
That opportunity came when I created a few Halloween “BOO” buckets and listed them in a local Facebook crafting group. What started as a fun project quickly took off and the response was far beyond what I expected. The success of those first products, combined with my love of creativity and passion for business, gave me the confidence to turn a simple idea into something bigger.
That experience ultimately led me to launch 2+3=WE, a business dedicated to creating personalized activity kits, care packages and snack boxes, that help families celebrate special moments, make memories and keep kids engaged along the way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, I’ve had a relatively smooth ride but like any entrepreneur, I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way. As a small business owner, I wear many hats—from product development and marketing to order fulfillment, shipping, and customer service. Balancing all of those responsibilities while raising three children are especially challenging during summers and school breaks when my kids are home full-time.
Another challenge has been learning to navigate entrepreneurship with ADHD. While my creativity and ability to think outside the box have been tremendous assets, ADHD can also make organization and attention to detail more difficult at times. Over the years, I’ve made mistakes – shipping the wrong order, misspelling a name or forgetting to include a gift note. Thankfully, my customers have been incredibly understanding and I’ve always made it a priority to fix any issues quickly.
Because every product is personalized and hand-lettered by me, growth presents its own challenges as well. Each order requires time, care and attention to detail, which means scaling the business isn’t as simple as lettering more boxes. I’ve had to continually find ways to improve efficiency while preserving the personal touch that makes my products unique and meaningful to my customers.
While these challenges haven’t always been easy, they’ve pushed me to become more adaptable, organized and intentional in how I run my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
2+3=WE creates personalized activity kits and snack boxes designed to make traveling, celebrating and entertaining kids easier for parents. From family vacations and summer camp to weddings, dance competitions, sporting events and big sibling gifts, my products help make special moments even more memorable.
As a mom of three children ranging from almost 6 to 14 years old, I have a unique perspective on what truly keeps kids engaged at different ages. Every box is thoughtfully curated with age-appropriate activities, toys, games, snacks and fidgets that are fun, practical and designed to keep children entertained.
One of the most rewarding parts of running my business is hearing from parents about the impact my products have had on their families. Whether it’s a child staying happily occupied on a long flight, a camper feeling loved while away from home or a young wedding guest enjoying the celebration alongside the adults, those stories remind me why I started this business in the first place.
What sets 2+3=WE apart is that every box is personally designed, assembled, and hand-lettered by me. As a busy mom, I understand the challenges parents face when preparing for trips, events, and everyday activities. My goal is to create convenient, grab-and-go solutions that help parents feel prepared while giving kids something engaging, screen-free and genuinely fun to enjoy.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see a growing demand for screen-free activities as parents become more intentional about how their children spend their time. The recent trend of bringing back the “90s kid summer” reflects a broader desire to encourage outdoor play, creativity, independence and hands-on experiences. As technology continues to play a larger role in everyday life, I believe products that inspire imaginative play and meaningful family interactions will become even more valuable.
I also expect personalization to continue shaping the industry. Consumers are increasingly choosing meaningful, customized products over mass-produced alternatives. Parents are looking for ways to make special moments feel even more memorable, whether that’s a family vacation, a wedding, summer camp, or a milestone like becoming a big brother or big sister. Products, like my snack and activity boxes, that combine personalization with convenience and a memorable experience will continue to resonate with families in the years ahead.
