Hi Comp, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Comp DaGreat is a performer, entertainer & music engineer from Saint Louis, MO. Comp has been in the music business for over 20 years creating all genres of music including Hip-hop, Country, Pop, Rock, Soul & R&B that he performs throughout the United States. Working with countless artists & expanding his brand has built him a reputation of one of the greatest “underground” artists of his time. From live performances, engineering his own creations, to directing his own music videos, Comp DaGreat is the true definition of a Starvn Artist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had to overcome a number of of obstacles & complications including financial hardships, legal issues, the loss of my mother & my child having to deal with a cancer diagnosis not once but twice. Trying to build & expand my brand while having to work a day job, maintaining & networking with other brands to build consistent relationships. Also, my wife is my business partner & we don’t always see eye to eye. We currently live on the road full time now & that comes with its own set of challenges as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating multigenre music. I also record & engineer my own songs. I direct my own music videos & I maintain our company website. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I wear many hats & perform multiple different functions to contribute to the success of the business side of things. Not just an artist, I am hands on with the entire process from start to finish. We even create & press our own merch. Seek my own opportunities, format my own show mixes & organize my own choreography, props, etc to ensure my performances are entertaining & memorable.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Since I focus on so many different objectives, what matters varies based on what I might be executing. What matters most overall is quality & success. I don’t want to do something just to say I did it, I need greatness out of everything I touch. Why is this important to me? This is important because I do this to make a difference, I do it to show pure, raw, diverse talent. It’s important that anyone who is lucky enough to experience anything that I have to offer is overcome with that “WOW” factor. It’s important that all of my hard work pays off so I can help others achieve their goals of following their dreams.
