Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Culli.
Hi Nathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I currently work as a freelance videographer and video editor in the Kansas City area. I had an interest in video creation since middle school, mostly making sports-related videos up until the end of high school and going into college. I went to college and really found a strong interest in camera work and editing, so I started to really focus on those two skills in my last couple years there. I graduated in December 2025, and a month later I was moved in to a house in Olathe, KS where I would start working as a freelancer. Since then, I’ve been primarily doing video editing for a social media brand named Friday Pickleball, with other production gigs for local clients throughout that time. Now, I have actually moved to Gilbert, Arizona for the summer, to work more closely with Friday Pickleball as they relocate their business to Arizona.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Thankfully, it has been mostly smooth. I haven’t really had a month where I wasn’t sure about my income. That level of security is something I am incredibly blessed to have and I do not want to take it for granted. I’ve seen a lot of payoff from the connections I made before graduating college.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a freelance video creator, editor, and photographer based in Kansas City. I have been shooting and editing video in my free time for over eight years by now, and my skills have improved greatly through experiences at school and on freelance projects. My recent work has been for Friday Pickleball, SIU Carbondale’s University Communications, and various freelance assignments such as a wedding videographer. In addition to video, I work as a portrait and event photographer for varying clients.
If, out of all these, there was one “niche” that I’ve developed a reputation for, it would certainly be the video editing. That is what drives the majority of my income, and I think it’s just come down to consistency for me. I’ve been editing most of Friday Pickleball’s weekly long form videos on YouTube for the past year, and have never missed a deadline that I’ve been assigned (despite some quick turnaround assignments)! Almost a year ago to the day I’m writing this, I was assigned the task of editing *just* the intro for a YouTube video. So my job was to pack in the most interesting and exciting moments from a 30 minute video… into just 30 seconds. The draft I sent back got a fantastic response, and the video performed very well upon its release. That was sort of the project that started me on this path of consistently editing for Friday, and I’ve really enjoyed it since. What matters most to you?
The ability to maintain community and relationships is what I’d say matters to me most. That’s why I love the freelance position I’m in. It allows me to travel home for a week and still get work done, or take a spontaneous two day trip to see some friends on the other side of the state and still meet deadlines.
