Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylene Burke.
Hi Kylene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity. Whether it was styling, thoughtful design, or bringing ideas to life, I’ve always found joy in creating experiences that make people feel something.
After graduating from college and beginning my career in the engineering industry, I quickly realized that while I loved the challenge of business, I was missing a creative outlet. One night, it hit me—I could combine my love for creativity with my passion for connecting with people through photography.
That same week, I reached out to a friend for help finding my very first camera on Facebook Marketplace. I had no idea that one simple purchase would completely change the direction of my life.
Three years later, I’m proud to be the founder and creative behind Focused Moments Studio. Along the way, my background in business, experience in the wedding industry, and entrepreneurial mindset have shaped the way I serve every client. I believe beautiful photographs begin long before the shutter clicks—with thoughtful planning, genuine connection, and an experience that feels effortless from start to finish.
Today, I have the privilege of working with couples, families, and growing businesses to tell their stories in a way that feels authentic and intentional. Every session is customized to the people in front of my camera because no two stories are the same. I love collaborating with my clients, bringing fresh ideas to the table, and creating imagery that reflects their vision while adding my own creative perspective.
This is only the beginning for Focused Moments Studio. I have big dreams for where this brand is headed, and I’m incredibly excited to continue growing it into something that inspires people, celebrates meaningful moments, and helps others tell their stories with confidence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what has made this journey so rewarding.
Photography is a craft, and it took me nearly two years of consistent practice, education, and research before I truly felt like my work reflected the vision I had in my head. There were countless hours spent learning my camera, studying light, refining my editing style, and investing in workshops and mentorship to create photographs that felt authentically me.
Along the way, I also had the opportunity to work with two wedding coordination companies. Seeing weddings from behind the scenes completely changed the way I approach photography. I learned that a photographer does so much more than capture beautiful images—we help shape the timeline, communicate with vendors, anticipate meaningful moments, and create a calm, enjoyable experience for our couples.
At the same time, I’ve continued building Focused Moments Studio while working full-time in business. Although balancing both hasn’t always been easy, I’m incredibly grateful for that experience. My career has taught me invaluable lessons about finances, client relationships, communication, systems, and what it truly takes to grow a successful company. It has also allowed me to continually invest in professional equipment, education, and training so I can provide the highest quality experience for my clients.
There were seasons when life became busy and my camera stayed on the shelf longer than I wanted. I remember asking myself, “Is this just a phase? Will I still want to do this a year from now?” Every time I picked it back up, though, the answer became even clearer.
Photography isn’t just something I enjoy—it’s something I’ve chosen to build. With every session, every lesson, and every investment I’ve made in myself, I’ve become more confident that this is exactly where I’m meant to be. I know that with enough time, dedication, and heart, Focused Moments Studio will grow into something I’m incredibly proud of.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
While I love photographing weddings and life’s biggest milestones, I’m equally passionate about helping businesses tell their story. There are so many incredible businesses doing amazing work that simply aren’t showing it. Too often I come across outdated websites, inconsistent social media, or businesses that have little to no professional content, and I know how much potential they’re leaving untapped.
My goal is to become the creative partner businesses can rely on for fresh, high-quality content that reflects who they are and where they’re headed. Whether it’s photographing a new product launch, creating updated team headshots, documenting an event, or building a library of brand imagery for their website and marketing, I love helping businesses present themselves with confidence and professionalism.
I especially enjoy working with businesses where creativity and relationships are at the center of what they do. The bridal industry, real estate, med spas, boutiques, hospitality, and small business owners are all industries I’m excited to continue serving because I love helping passionate people showcase what makes them different.
Alongside branding work, I’ll always have a heart for weddings. There’s something incredibly rewarding about documenting one of the biggest days in someone’s life while creating an experience that feels calm, intentional, and enjoyable. I also love creating luxury-inspired editorial shoots that allow businesses and couples alike to dream bigger and showcase their brands in an elevated way.
At the end of the day, whether I’m working with a business or a couple, my goal is the same: to create intentional imagery that helps people feel proud of their story and excited to share it.
How do you define success?
I define success as happy clients and continuous growth. Success isn’t just about booking more sessions—it’s about creating an experience that people genuinely enjoy and delivering work they’re excited to share. I want to keep challenging myself creatively, building meaningful relationships, and growing Focused Moments Studio into a business that’s trusted for both its professionalism and the experience it provides.
