Rising Stars: Meet Dayne Pearman of St Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayne Pearman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Southern Illinois, a small town called Murphysboro. I was just a normal kid with a middle class family that enjoyed playing guitar hero and listening to music.

Ended up moving to this place called Waterloo when i was 10, my parents split up and i lived with my mom on a low fixed income.

I saw and experienced how it felt to have a normal family, to having a broken one.

During that time I figured out that writing poetry really helped me get out my feelings, for majority of my childhood I didn’t know how to express my emotions. So poetry really helped out a lot with that.

Fast Forward a few years, experienced some trauma, next thing I know i’m in 8th grade and i’m recording on an old friend’s phone.

Somehow, it blew up, still on my Soundcloud today. 30,000 views was a huge boost in confidence for a quiet kid you know?

I decided to drop more music, everyone at school was either liking it, or bullying the hell out of me for it. Waterloo wasn’t necessarily the most progressive town, I was surrounded by a whole bunch of people that were all the same, i was a bit different. Definitely not from a farming family lol.

High school comes, and my freshman year i decide to invest in a distributor. I got a few songs up and it did very well, just not as good as the past.

My first album hit and it really made me the person who i am today, and what my image is.

Throughout high school I dropped music, and during high school I ended up losing contact with my father as well.

Music is therapy for me, and it will continue to be for the rest of my life.

Other than that, never had much traction after the first song, but i’ve been continuing to push my music out and to be consistently making music everyday.

Now I’m living with a few roommates and i’m out of my hometown, trying to establish myself as an adult and trying to figure everything out.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road for my life, of course not. But there’s always someone who’s got it harder than me. I am grateful to have a great family and friends. I have water, I have shelter, I have food, I have a car, I have the equipment to record, again I am beyond grateful for everything.

I don’t have the opportunity to have a perfect family, and in my teens I grew up without a father. Still no contact with him till this day. My mother tried her hardest raising me but I mainly raised myself. I did not have anyone to teach me on how to be a man.

Music wise, i’m from the ground up. I’ve been at a flatline for quite some time now, but my art is getting better and i’ve been practicing for about 8 years now. I’m sure i’m not bad, and I see how i’m not necessarily the same as others (forgive my ego)

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a cook my whole life, I made pizzas for at Papa John’s, and now i’m working as a cook in a casino. I’ve been trying to get into the Cannabis business though.

Papa John’s flew me out twice to be in this like, olympic games but for pizza. That’s probably the coolest thing i’ve been a part of.

i’m just known as a hard worker. I’m 21, I still have a lot of time left to become a master at something.

I’m just myself, I guess that’s how i’m set apart from others.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’m always willing to grow, hence my stage name (Leaves)

Pun intended for sure. I’ve got quite the discography out there and I’d deeply appreciate it if you gave me a bit of your time. The only thing i can reward you is music from my heart and my emotions.

I’m mainly in the rap genre, but you’ll have to find out the rest.

Much love, and thank you for this opportunity.
