Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre 14.
Hi Tre, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first got started maybe back in 2010. Me, my brothers and my dad would record ourselves rapping on a phone, using our tv for instrumentals off YouTube. That was the real start. Then I began to mix and master our songs. That eventually lead to me making beats also. I just wanted to keep everything in house and not have to pay other people for things we could do on our own. Plus by that point I had grew a passion for just creating music in general. So I really fell in love with the process of creating. That pretty much got me on the journey I’m now on today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I know that’s there’s always going to be some type of road block or challenge along the way. Even getting started is a challenge and I honestly feel like I’m truly just getting started when it comes to putting everything together. Confidence in myself was something I had to work on a lot early on. I’m naturally a closed off person. Pretty quiet and chill for the most part until I get comfortable. Having to put not only myself but my art and music on display was a huge challenge. Having to be open and vulnerable is never easy. Having to share myself and my life has always been a big challenge when it comes to being an artist. I don’t always like it but I know that comes with this. I’m still working on that part of myself. You also need people around you that you can trust. I need like minded people but I also need people who will be real no matter what. We have to be able to move together. Networking is big also. You never know who’s waiting on that other side but you have to be willing to find out. One interaction can lead to a new path. The last thing I’d say is working when you don’t feel like it. You have to always put that first and be willing do that above anything else. Being consistent is key and there’s no shortcut to putting the work in.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’d call myself and artist. A musician also but music is art so that’s why i like to say I’m an artist. I create things. I’m also a producer. I have a hand in pretty much every aspect when it comes to making music. I like to know how things work and seeing how stuff is made. Everyone has their own process when it comes to music so I like to learn. I could sit in that creation process forever. Whether it’s creating melodies and making the beat or writing a song, I just enjoy the process. The thing I’m most proud of is just the fact that I’m able to make music and share my creations. To have the confidence to do it consistently is big to me. Because it’s not easy. What sets me apart is my music itself. That’s a big difference because I don’t tend to sound like many other artists. My subject matter or beat selection isn’t always the typical sound. I blend together a lot of elements and genres to create what I feel like is a unique sound. World building in a way. It’s pretty trippy but something you can really vibe with every time.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I can’t really say. I’m pretty open so it’s not many surprises I guess. Maybe the amount of time I actually spend working on music. People may not realize the amount of time you have to spend bringing these sounds and ideas to life. All from inside your head. It’s wild to think about when you’re really in that creative space. I pride myself on trying to push my sound to the next level and that takes a lot of time. To constantly create something new and fresh isn’t the easiest thing to do. I do feel like people might under estimate how much creativity you have to have. People get bored quick so you have to be able to keep their attention.
