Today we’d like to introduce you to Patti Porter.
Patti, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have worked in retail most of my adult life. In 2010 started really thinking of opening my own shop. By April of 2012 my dream came to. I opened a shop in Kirkwood, MO it is a home accessory shop. I also include high end permanent botanicals to make custom florals for the home. We work hard to provide excellent customer service helping people make their houses into homes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid was a very hard time to be in business. My husband and I worked long hours to keep the business going by working on our on line shop and doing home deliveries to customers locally.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel I am known for my eye. Meaning, being able to go to market and pick out items that then come back to the shop and we display in ways that make people want them to be a part of their homes. I only buy what I love. I would never sell something that I would not have in my own home. I love to help people solve the problem areas in their homes. Having the customer florals in our shop also sets us apart. Not a lot of shops offer this service and it is the one part in decorating that adds the softness to the space. Makes the space come alive.
What were you like growing up?
I was a very out going child. I spent most of my childhood going to a shopping center by my house and being in these stores. Mostly, clothing stores. I would watch the people as they worked, helping customers, redisplaying, and unpacking boxes. On vacations I would also go into every shop I could.
Pricing:
- When shopping at market I always look for the combination on a great look for the money. I don’t just go for the most expensive because sometimes those items stay around awhile.
