Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Wieberg.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I had always been the person in my friend group with the “millennial” digital camera growing up. Then for my 20th birthday, my now husband bought me my first “good quality” camera. From there I started taking photos for my family and friends just for fun. Flash forward to 2018, and I was looking for a way to leave my corporate job and spend more time with my family. We decided to take the leap, and I started my photography business. I invested a lot of time and money into online courses and local photography workshops to develop a portfolio. I took my business full-time in 2020 (what timing).
In 2021, I opened a photography studio, so I can offer indoor, studio sessions, as well as outdoor, on site photography. My studio is located in Jefferson City.
Since then I’ve photographed 130 or so weddings, and hundreds of families and their milestones through the years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any business is truly a smooth road. Of course the world being shut down in 2020 was a struggle, especially working in the wedding industry. I was blessed that all of my couples postponed/rescheduled with me still photographing their weddings.
Beyond that, balancing owning a business with being a mother can be a struggle. When I started my photography business, I had a one year old daughter. I recently had our fourth baby. It can feel challenging for any woman to balance work with motherhood. I’ve been so lucky to have clients who understand that I’m a mother first, but that I still value their memories as if they were my own.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hybrid photographer, meaning I shoot both film and digital. I photograph families’ legacies, starting with their engagement and wedding. Then I love when those amazing couples continue to trust me with their memories as they grow their families. I photograph their maternity photos, newborn, family, etc. as their lives grow and change.
I think what sets me apart is the relationship I build with families. While I love to be part of weddings, and the start of love stories, I truly revel in being asked to continue to photograph a couple and family as they grow in love and number.
Any big plans?
I plan to continue to photograph weddings and families, but I plan to be more intentional with the weddings I take on. I want to continue to photograph these meaningful events and their growth from there, while making my own family my top priority. By being intentional with the projects I take on, I hope to really give my couples and families a wonderful, attentive experience.
